"Do you have any idea how I feel when you're with him?" Brittany asks Santana with tears streaming down her face, she's in so much pain.
Brittany loves Santana. Santana loves Brittany but Santana is dating Sam. Santana spends most of her time with him but she has always loved Brittany. Her family loves Sam though. They want Santana to marry him.
"Britt, I know it's awful but what can I do?"
Brittany's chest hurts and feels like it's going to explode when she sees them kiss at the annual Christmas party.
She catches Santana's eye and sees the pain in them. There has to be a better way.
Brittany sees Sam say something in Santana's ear and he pulls her toward the back bedroom. Brittany could die right there. She feels bile rise in her throat and she runs out of the party.
Santana hates every second spent in his arms. She just wants Brittany to hold her and tell her everything will be alright.
One night in March when the entire group is out at dinner Sam gets down on one knee and proposes to her.
She's in shock and she glances around at her friends. They're all smiling except the one that matters.
Santana looks down and asks Sam to stand up and that she needs to think about it. She can tell that he's bummed but she has to think.
That night, she goes to see Brittany and finds her drunk, curled into a ball on her bed, crying.
Santana runs over to her and pulls Brittany into her lap. Brittany only cries harder and wraps her arms around Santana like she about to disappear from her life forever.
Santana can't take this pain. She can feel Brittany's heart breaking.
The next day Santana goes to see Sam. When she gets there she finds her family at his apartment.
"Why are you all here?" Santana asks confused
"Baby, they wanted to come and see what your answer is to my proposal." Sam speaks up
Santana freezes.
A month later Santana is sitting with her mother looking at flowers, cakes and dresses.
She hasn't seen or heard from Brittany since that night.
The day of the wedding Santana's crying in the hotel room where she's supposed to be getting ready.
She hears a knock on the door and finds Quinn standing there.
Quinn walks in and pulls her best friend into a hug.
"You can't do this San. You love her"
Santana's in shock. No one knew about her and Brittany.
"How did you know?"
"She hasn't been spending time with anyone and when I went to see her…I've never seen he like that. She must've lost 20 pounds and her eyes, they're so…dull and blank. She just seems broken. Then I thought about how you've been distant and everything clicked."
"I love her so much Q" Santana cries
"Let's go. I have a car downstairs"
Santana and Quinn run into Brittany's apartment building. Santana grabs her key and opens the door. She runs to the bedroom and finds Brittany sitting in the dark holding a note Santana wrote her back in high school.
"Britt…" Santana whispers and Brittany jumps
"San…" Brittany croaks, like she hasn't used her voice in weeks
Santana feels tears streaming down her face, "I love you baby. I can't live without you"
Brittany stands up shakily and Santana runs over to her.
"What about your family? And Sam? What about your wedding?" Brittany asks
"Screw it all, I love you"
A year later they have a small ceremony with their closest friends and vow to spend their lives together.
"Forever and Always"
5 years later Brittany is lying in a hospital bed holding a beautiful baby girl with Santana by her side.
Brittany looks at Santana and asks, "What about your family, don't you want to tell them?"
Santana looks her in the eyes, "Screw it all, you two are my family."
Brittany smiles and whispers "Screw it all, we love you."
