She tugged on a stray strand of ebony hair. "If I maybe, uh said something now would that be okay?"
Of course, she didn't wait for an answer.
"I'm so scared right now."
He looked at her and blinked. Raising his brows slightly he examined her. He didn't say 'why?' he just nodded, "I know."
"A bloody war is about to start. And I'm not ready to die, not yet."
"You aren't going to die, Cee," he said reassuring her.
"How do you know? Mummy and Daddy will want me to fight with them and your parents will want you to fight too. And it ain't going to be for the good side."
He put his head in his hands and then said in a strong tone, "And we'll fight."
"We'll have to," she said. "Did you hear about Sirius Black?"
"It was all over the papers," he said. "Of course I did."
"Bella killed him, she's always been like an Auntie to me. Cool person, a bit neurotic though."
"Father was very good friends with her," said he. "Perhaps too good of friends."
"I always knew she had it in her, but imagine doing that to your own blood. It's awful, even if I do hate the guy."
He didn't reply. He fastened the snake clasp on his cloak and sat down on the bench. She followed suit.
"Is it okay for me to be scared?"
"No," he shook his head. "'Cause we'll win."
She laughed at his arrogant display. "Do you really think so?"
"I know so."
"Not to come across as a traitor or anything, but they've got Dumbledore-"
"-He's far past his prime."
"Maybe so, but even if he is he's still stronger then, well, everyone."
"He can't win a war by himself," Draco said reasoning with her.
"I wouldn't put it past him," she said. "And plus, it wouldn't just be him, Nolan."
Draco's eyes bore into hers. "I don't want you fighting," he said sullenly.
"Well, too bad. It's only right, I was born for this."
"You're a good fighter, Cee. And your fencing ability is pretty good, for a girl. But they won't have mercy on you like I do."
"You, mercy? That's quite witty," she giggled slightly. She pulled her dark purple cloak tighter around her and sighed.
He raked a hand through his frosting colored hair and glared at her.
"I was kidding," she said, playfully hitting his arm. "Your Father just got home."
She pointed to a light going on in the large manor. He looked in that direction.
"That's nice."
"-Not really."
"I was being sarcastic."
"Oh, I knew that."
He chuckled loudly and his voice rang out over the terrace. She giggled too, but not as loudly.
"Sirius Black is dead," he said, his voice cold and flat. It was a random fact.
"Yes," she said. "He is."
He looked at the full moon, "eh."
"I wonder how Potter's doing-" she said and then instantly added "-not like I care."
"Of course not."
"It should've been Potter, not his Godfather," Draco said.
He extended his hand and helped her to her feet.
"In due time Nolan, in due time."
He laughed. And it wasn't a pleasant laugh.
"Yes," he said.
"Anyway, want some caramel candy?" She took many small pieces of candy out of her crocheted purse and held it out to him. He took a piece.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
"It's getting late," he observed. "I'm going to walk you home now."
"I can walk home fine by myself."
"I'll walk you."
"I'll ditch you."
"Fine."
"Deal?"
"Deal."
She began running through the fields and he chased after her. Their pale feet under the cool grass. "I'm going to get you!" He yelled, almost catching up to her.
"Never!" She yelled back, her ebony hair becoming curly due to the wind.
