Artemis saw Opal throw the dagger. He heard Holly scream. It seemed surreal. He felt the dagger plunge into his stomach. He cried out in pain. He fell to the ground. He realised his hand was clutching the dagger. He lifted his hand. It was covered in blood.
He knew this was it. He was going to die. He thought about all the mistakes he had made and all the things he had wanted to do but now would never get a chance. One of those things was telling Holly how he really felt about her. But now as his life slipped away Holly killed Opal Koboi once and for all.
Artemis felt him soul pull away from his body. He was dead. He knew it. So did Holly. She shrieked and ran and knelt beside his lifeless body. She held his head in her arms. She sobbed quietly into his shirt. Artemis knelt beside her (his ghost). He put his hand on her shoulder. As if sensing him Holly looked up.
She looked around.
"Artemis?" she said weakly. Artemis tried to wipe the tear rolling down her face but his hand went right through it. Holly closed her eyes feeling Artemis's presence.
"Artemis?" she repeated.
"I'm here." He said knowing she couldn't hear him.
"Artemis? If you're listening I want you to know I love you. I have since I met you."
Artemis leaned down and lightly kissed her on the lips. "I love you too." He said. Looking up he saw a bright light coming closer. He cupped Holly's face in his hands and kissed her again. Again she closed her eyes. Then he stood up and walked towards the light. He was ready. He was ready for whatever was in store for him on the other side of the light. He walked in and left Holly forever.
