AN: So this is just a snapshot of what James Potter's thoughts were the night Voldemort killed him. I wrote up one for Lily as well, so I might add that as a second chapter. Please read and review!

His Last Moments on Earth, James Potter's POV
"Lily, come see this," yelled James into the next room. Harry, their son, smiled as his mother appeared in the room with the camera to take a picture. James was content, he had a beautiful wife who loved him and an amazing son.
But, he knew the wizarding world was not content because of the rise of You-Know-Who. He heard it every day as he went into work, but he was almost positive that his family was safe. Why would You-Know-Who want to harm them? Of course, Lily and himself were both a powerful witch and wizard, but so were many other people.
Yet, there was always something nagging James in the back of his head. What if something went wrong? But James's only solution was to keep his family together and happy for as long as he could and make sure they stayed safe. This all went through James's head as he sent smoke rings out of his wand for the amusement of his son.
His son, his little boy, was a mini replica of himself with his messy black hair and his face that was happy and smiling. His wife was now laughing as Harry tried, but failed to catch the smoke rings. James joined in, pushing away his fears as he bounced Harry up and down on his knees to make him laugh.
But then there was a loud crash as James saw the door being blasted off his hinges. All of his fears mirrored on his wife's face as he looked up at her. He might only have one second to live, he thought as he gave Lily their son and told her to take Harry and go and that it was him.
As he ran into the hall thinking only of Lily and Harry he remembered what he said a second ago when told Lily that he would hold him off. As he reached into his pocket to grab his wand, he felt nothing and realized he had left it on the couch. He looked into You-Know-Who's face and saw his wax-like features curled into a smile laughing at him, without a wand. You-Know-Who raised his arm and cast the spell that James knew would kill him.
As the shot of green light sped towards him, he thought he heard Lily's scream upstairs and hoped that she would be okay, that Harry would be okay, that they would somehow get out this mess. He hoped they both knew that he loved them as the spell hit him square in the chest. He felt himself fall into nothingness, only hoping that Lily and Harry would survive.
