Author's Note: (right... just ignore it)

Yeah, well, I finally decided to post a story. I prefer to just review others' fics but I felt I should at least make an attempt. That and an extremely annoying friend of mine wouldn't stop badgering me to write something. Also, I was getting bored of reading Raven suicide fics and thought I'd turn the tables. Anywho, enough of my pointless rambling and on with the show! ...er, fic!

Cowardice

"You're not thinking of killing yourself, are you?" monotoned a casual Raven.

Terra looked up in shock. It was three am and they were both in the common room/kitchen. Raven had just entered moments ago, undetected by Terra. Terra was holding a rather large kitchen knife to her wrist.

Raven nonchalantly made her way to the kettle, planning on making a nice hot cup of herbal tea. Terra just stared at the dark mage in confusion. An eerie silence had befallen the two young heroes. Raven, who had been previously fiddling with her tea bag, repositioned her gaze upon Terra, with a slightly bored look in her eye.

"Coward."

The geomancer's eyes widened.

"Coward? You call this cowardice?! I'm about to take my own life here and you stand idly by half-asleep calling me a coward!"

Raven retained her calm appearance.

"Well, what would you call it? It was either cowardice or insanity, and I know you're not insane. Maybe the correct word is stupidity..."

Raven shrugged it off, almost comically, and returned to her tea. Terra, confused and puzzled (confuzzled if you will), was nearly speechless... nearly;

"What are you talking about? This isn't making any sense. Answer my question!"

Raven faced her once more.

"Why are you committing suicide" she asked.

"Because life sucks. I almost killed my only true friends on the planet (or universe for that matter) several times working out of freewill for a madman bent on controlling the galaxy!" By now Terra practically screamed her response.

Yup, she's in hysterics... Raven visibly yawned. "Is that all?"

Raven walked over to where Terra was standing.

"Everybody has a life, Terra. Everybody has difficult times in that life. Most try to cope with their problems. Committing suicide is a coward's way out. They just kill themselves and voila, no more pain or problems. Just like a lazy person stealing money instead of earning it. It leaves others to deal with the consequences of their actions. Are you a coward Terra?"

The blond lowered her gaze to the floor. "I heard about the whole Trigon incident from Robin," she blurted out.

Boy Blunder, you are so dead...

"How did you manage to live with yourself?"

Raven's once bored gaze quickly shifted into a cold stare at the mention of her 'father's' name.

"If I committed suicide, then it would have been that much easier for Trigon to control my body and create the portal. The world wouldn't have stood a ghost of a chance. I was its last hope and I wasn't going to let it down, even though I hadn't a clue as to what was about to happen. By that time, I had lost all hope, but I wasn't about to give up, for the sake of the others I at least had to try. Some call it bravery, others call it stubbornness. Whatever it was, its the reason billions of people are alive today. Think about it. Oh, and you never did answer my question..."

With that, Raven left the common room, leaving a bewildered Terra to her thoughts. The young heroine just stared blankly at where the sorcerer has stood seconds earlier and also at the knife still held in her left hand. Am I a coward?
