Innocence of a Kiss

She dropped onto the couch and sighed, not even bothering to scold Ray, Jr. about leaving his stuff on the floor. It was enough of his energy to stay awake after a long day at work. How was she supposed to know that he planned to go out with her that night? She was really tempted to call him and flat out say, "I can't go with you tonight. I'm overloaded with work…"

Then he'd make up an excuse to come over. Then he'd probably beat the crap out of her.

She just needed some familiar company right now. Anyone but that…

There was a knock at the door. She pretended to be asleep, to not be at the house, even though the car was parked in the driveway.

Ray jumped up and down to peer through the glass and gave a whoop of glee. "Mom! It's Uncle Horatio!"

She opened her eyes and immediately sat up, smiling. "Well, what are you waiting for? Answer the door!"

Horatio Caine could've looked like he had walked out of a picturesque story book. It had been raining outside a couple of moments ago, and even with his wet, fiery-red hair, it seemed like he was, in a literal sense, glowing. She wondered why she was still in her fling with Stetler but quickly pushed all thoughts aside when he heard him say, "Ray! Haven't seen you in a while, buddy!"

"What are you doing here?" the boy asked, eagerness in his tone.

He smiled. "Thought I'd come and see your mom!" He winked in her direction.

Ray nodded. "I'll be right back with something!" He ran upstairs, leaving the two deniable family members in the living room.

Horatio sat down and smiled at her, easing a little bit into the couch. She smiled back, giving a vulnerable glimpse at her chocolate-brown eyes of longing for the man in front of her. He was playing with something in his hand as he gazed at her. She blinked. "You okay, Horatio?"

"Just… determining our relationship," he replied quietly. "I was wondering if you could, um…" He seemed at a loss for words.

She smiled mischievously. "Okay, what is it?"

He put his hand forward and opened it. She winced, having the fleeting possibility he was Stetler for a moment, but… "I hope you like dark chocolate."

She gasped in surprise. A small Hershey's Dark Chocolate Kiss was in his hand, waiting to be picked up by the right woman. She giggled softly. Horatio had never heard her giggle before… and he liked it. A lot.

Ray came down the steps to show Horatio his report card and noticed the two looking at each other. He wrinkled his nose. "Are you going to make out?" he asked.

Horatio and Yelina blinked. But deep down, she knew that the simple gesture he made was all that was needed to brighten her day. He shook his head. "Maybe when you're asleep," he teased.

The boy looked disgusted. Nonetheless, he brought the piece of paper to his uncle and grinned. "Five A's and one B!"

Yelina smiled. The innocence of the one kiss he gave to her and his son was the entire world to her.

So why did she still have Stetler?

A/N:Okay, so it says 'General.' Don't sue me, but review, please and thank you!
