Max watched the flames flicker, the xs a cold and blunt reminder of
the horror story that was her past. The coldest of anger had welled up in
her chest, boiling to the risk of explosion, since Cece's death. Jumping as
she heard a gentle knock her door, she forced a sad smile at Logan as he
entered, before turning back to the window.
"How can they be so stupid?" She asked, thinking out loud. " They don't understand." He checked his gloves, pulling them tighter, before entangling his fingers with hers. She glanced up, and met his eyes. He wanted nothing ore then to take that haunted look from his angel's eyes, but he couldn't, and he knew it. He couldn't remember something that made he feel more helpless then this.
She pulls away, taking up pacing the room. " What fucking right do they think they have to just kill us like cattle?" A tear voiced her anger and confusion as it traced its way down her cheek. He grapped her arm lightly, brushing the tear aside. " How can they call us monsters when they are the ones acting like them?" Her eyes met his for a second time, and it tore his heart in two. For the eyes he saw were not that of a solider, and not that of his Max, but that of a child, frightened and searching for answers he so longed to give. But he didn't have the answers, and didn't even know the questions.
She was crying now, silently shaking. He pulled her closer. " How can I make them understand?" He sighed, and she nodded. " We can't."
She swallowed her tears, straitening up. " Then we'll fight them." She looked like a child, her eyes still wide and sad, and her cheeks still wet.
"Then we'll fight them." He echoed. His heart soared as she reached for his hand with a firm grip. "Together." Her smile said everything, and this time she was the one to echo.
"Together."
