Rays of light scattered on the cement floor. A pale silhouette floated through the air, casting a ghostly aura around the room. A door squeaked open and then, silence except for a sudden bloodcurdling scream. And then, it was over. The door opened again and the figure came out smiling. If you looked closely into his timeless eyes, you could see that they were a startling shade of scarlet. The ground trembled and darkness fell over the room. The smile was wiped from pale white face and the figure was gone.
Rosalie woke up, screaming. "Thank God, it was just a dream!" On the door, a knock was heard. "Come in," Rosalie said shakily. It opened to reveal a small brown haired girl holding a teddy bear in a pink nightgown. It was Nicole, her little sister.
"Rose, I heard you screaming…what's wrong?" Nicole asked in a small voice. Rosalie smiled, "Nothing, I'm fine Nicole." Rosalie tried to lie, she didn't want to scare Nicole with her restlessness. But she knew it was a waste, nothing got by her. "It's okay, you don't have to lie, I'll stay with you tonight." Nicole said. Rose nodded, and patted a place on the bed next to her. They talked for a while as Rosalie combed Nicole's brown locks. They looked so different; it was hard to tell if they were related. Rosalie had a stunning smile with somewhat tanned skin along with beach blonde waves that fell to the middle of her back. Nicole on the other hand, was seven with babyish features and brown curly hair.
Nicole spoke with a soft, musical voice about her school and such; it was so innocent that Rosalie forgot her own problems. She talked about someone stealing her favorite purple crayon and how the teacher gave her another brand-new one. Rose smiled, she missed the childhood days. Nicole spoke slowly and let a yawn sometimes. Finally, she fell asleep immersed in her own thoughts. Soon afterwards Nicole slept; Rose carried her back to her own room.
Nicole was sleeping but she was thinking deeply as well:"I really should tell Rosalie what happened. It was so brutal. She was so happy and in love that she was devastated when everyone found out about HIS death. It hurt for me to say the name. He was always so childish and playful. Rosalie really loved him. It was their anniversary and he was late. He was never late. She decided to go over to his house to remind him but was nearly run over. But the impact caused her M3 to swerve and crash. She was in a coma for three months and HE was gone. Left us all, and left her. When Rose finally woke up, she remembered nothing; Mom and Dad didn't want to tell her at all because they were afraid she would be devastated again. I was told not to tell her as well..." Nicole let out a last yawn and went into a deep slumber.
