The End

Bathilda would never have imagined the friendship of those two young men would have led them to this point.

Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald had grown to become such good friends during that summer not so long ago, just before Gellert had been expelled from Durmstrang. Bathilda had wanted Gellert to get out of Germany for a little while and be able to enjoy Britain.

Yet all of that had led the two fairly attractive boys down this road that ended in war. It was almost as if a Malevolent Mixture had been given to the two boys at the end of that summer for neither spoke of the other except in bitterness or in violence.

She stumbled from her position and fell not long after. Bathilda crawled to hide behind some rubble in an attempt to shield herself from the Killing and Torture curses being thrown around like sweets. Bathilda truly had no idea why she was here of all places but she had wanted to try and stop the two. Bathilda thoughts back and realized that she had been naïve in thinking that she would be able to change anything.

She flinched as a stray green spell hit a large piece of rubble above her head, showering her with a teal dear mist. Bathilda knew that there were Imperius curses being thrown around with the other Unforgiveables and she shuddered to think about what Gellert's men would make her do should she be caught by one of their spells. Bathilda was more terrified of Gellert's men than she was of him. Family mattered afterall.

An eerie silence filled the battlefield, from the distance she was away from them Bathilda could make out something that sounded like, "You know I'm the better man just surrender already! I don't wish to hurt you!"

Bathilda was not sure who had said that but the other's answer had been in the negative for they had begun to duel. It had been with heavy anticipation that everyone stopped their fighting and watched the two powerful wizards blast streams of power at each other reaching levels that most other people would only dream of.

Even as the imminent threat of attack was over, she noticed one of the Hogwarts' prefects, a Slytherin, was wisely herding the remaining students back towards Hogwarts.

Shields had been forced to be put up to protect the onlookers from the heat and fury of the battle. Auburn met blonde every step of the way, neither yielding their position, their beliefs. They did not want to lose what they had fought so hard to protect and losing this duel meant that they would lose everything along with their pride. They had been evenly matched until Gellert had somehow been distracted.

Gellert's wand flew out of his hand and Albus subdued him quickly, taking advantage of Gellert's shock. Even without their wands, they were well versed in wandless magic casting as Gellert would have used had he been given the chance to recover from the shock of losing his wand during a duel.

The violent war was over.

It had not ended in death as everyone had assumed it to end but sometimes living was a fate worse than death.
