Please write about the Practical uses of DADA, with the prompts of glow/fall/spike.
This is about Draco and Harry, no shipping though.
"DEMENTOR!" Draco Malfoy shrieked as he looked back at his pursuers. He silently gave his apologies to Harry. Um... Harry? I am really sorry that I bullied you about fainting. I think I'm going to pass out any moment... Yeah, so... sorry.
But he had no time to reflect any further. He wished he had payed more attention in Lupin's class when they actually learned about these creatures. Looking down at his wand, he racked his memory to unearth any spell that might be of use.
Expelliarmus? No, the dementors didn't carry a wand. No point in disarming them.
Riddiculus? That was only for those other things... Boggarts, right?
Serpensortia? Would dementors really take any notice to a snake?
Draco didn't think so.
He was contemplating on the fateful situation when one of those gross black bodies reached out to his neck. It clamped around him, and Draco felt cold sweat run down his back. He struggled, but to no avail. At this fateful moment, he regretted everything he said about Lupin, all the spiteful words he threw at Harry, his underestimation of the dementors' abilities. He batted an arm uselessly at the ghostly being. It swept through the dementor and his arm was swathed in black smoke. The dementor took its hood back and opened its mouth, leaning closer and closer to Draco.
"Help!" he tried to shout, but it only came out like a whimper. Draco knew he was done for, as the dementor inhaled deeply, and he felt like his insides were being pulled out. Just as he closed his eyes for what he thought would be the last time, a voice hollered:
"EXPECTO PATRONUM!"
Draco's eyes snapped open, and saw that the face reaching toward him drew back in repulse. Then, he saw a glowing stag, a lantern amongst the darkness charging right toward him. He shrieked and covered his head, almost certain that this would be the end, but it passed right through him. When it hit Draco, he did not feel that spike of hopelessness that the dementors omitted fall upon him, but a feeling of uncontained happiness. It only lasted a second, but Draco felt it. And that happiness, it drove away the dementors.
"Never thought listening to Lupin might matter someday, huh?" a voice beside him said. Draco jumped. After the scene he'd been through, everything seemed dark and frightening. He jerked his head to see the owner of the voice. Frankly, he wasn't surprised. Harry Potter, the Chosen One. The Ultimate Hero. He snorted in contempt.
"I can fight my own battles you know," Draco snapped. Harry shrugged.
"Alright, next time you are attacked by dementors, I'll let them suck your soul out. Just thought that your dad wouldn't be too pleased to know that happened. I wouldn't miss you, though. And I'm sure half the school wouldn't either," Harry retorted.
The full impact of what Harry just did hit Draco. He would be a soul-less body by now, just slumped against the ground. He was eternally thankful, but he didn't say. Wouldn't want to boost Harry Potter's ego any more. His father wouldn't be happy to know that he was saved by a Half-Blood, especially Harry Potter out of all of them. Draco couldn't let Harry save him again. He needed to be able to defend himself.
"You better teach me how to do that spell. Father wouldn't want a Half-Blood saving my life," Draco mumbled.
Harry snorted. As if he would. They walked to the castle together, and the whole time, Draco was reciting Expecto patronum. Expecto patronum. Expecto patronum...
