On days like this whether they would laugh, or cry, it didn't matter to her as long as they were together. It didn't matter to Roxy if Dirk didn't love her the way she wanted him to, as long as he was by her side. She didn't care if Jake; his prince came and swept him off his feet, just so long as she got to see him on weekends.

Now Roxy was strong but she once in a while she would escape, drinking until the world shone. As the years continued these escapes became daily because for her the world no longer shone without them. Roxy was happy though, dirk paid a bit more attention to her when she was drunk trying to help her and whatnot, she was overjoyed but deep in her heart she knew that he was slipping away, she chose to ignore it.

Every night while she was still sober but getting drunk she regretted everything but that regret slipped away with her mind into a world where everything nothing mattered, somewhere where she could laugh by herself. Sometimes this wonderful world fell apart, on the days he talks about Jake; her world of lights dimmed and dulled until she sat in the black shadows. She would cry until the numbness over took her, until there was a void where her heart use to be.

Roxy hardly ever slept, the insomnia over took her keeping her awake, the lights of her wonderful world kept her eyes open through the night. Once in a while she did sleep on that rare occasion the nightmares would swallow her whole and then spit her out, shadow tore at her feet while she stood on black ice, ice that could break at a step, in the end she would fall through the ice where shadows tore her apart and she would scream for somebody, Dirk, Jane, anyone; but all she got was silence in return, she was lost and never to be found.

Roxy lost her strength and drinking was no longer enough, Dirk was always with Jake and Jane was somewhere with her own happily ever after to listen to Roxy, so Roxy started cutting, first on her wrists and then wherever she found bare skin.

The only reason she was still alive was a maid because now Roxy didn't leave the house. She was imprisoned with alcohol as her only friend. Her wonderful world died, the lights where no longer existent and her happiness died away but she was still awake, now more than ever she couldn't sleep and the shadow came out of her nightmares, into the living world, tearing at her with every step she took. Her existence hung by a thread and the alcohol was no longer useful.

-extra ending-

One fateful day dirk messaged her; she was shocked after all it has been 2 years, he said him, and Jake and Jane were coming over in a week. She fretted, spent all day cleaning the house with the help of her maid, she even went outside to shop with difficulty she stepped out the front door and the sunlight blinding her, she felt a glimmer of hope in that void she called a heart.

When they came she was ecstatic. On that day when she heard the knock on her front door she knew they arrived as Roxy opened the door a cool September breeze rushed in. The first person through the door was Jane carrying platter upon platter of cookies, cakes and other goodies. Next was Jake as he passed her walking into the door he whispered "good luck" and winked slightly confused Roxy shook the thought away as Dirk entered through the door, she hugged him as tightly as possible "hey Rox".
