Chapter 1: The Bet
"Ha! I told ya so! You owe me five bucks, Nat!" Hikaru screamed from behind me.
"Son of a gun…" I handed her the money and she yelled again. Naruto and Naruko, his twin sister, were racing AGAIN, and she bet on Naruto winning. She had always had good luck on her bets. It makes me sick.
"Alright ladies! On your marks…!" Now Hikaru and I were racing. Naruto bet on her and Naruko bet on me. "Get set…." The gun fired, meaning for us to get our asses in gear and go. "Come on, Natsuko!" Naruko exclaimed from the sidelines. I felt a rush of adrenaline and literally jumped over the chalk line marked "FINISH". "Haha, nii-san! Ya owe me ten bucks, ya know." Naruko sounded like a fox after it caught its prey when Naruto slapped the money in her hands. "Dammit, Natsuko." Hikaru was out of breath. "You're fast." Yeah, I knew that.
"Hey, guys. What's goin' on?" Raiden had come out of nowhere. "Oh, hey, Suki. Raiden. Nothing really." Hikaru answered. " We were just headed home." I looked down, blushing. Only Hikaru knew it, but I kinda had a crush on Raiden. She liked Suki, but who cares. "Well, I guess we'll see you two tomorrow. I gotta get home to study." Raiden sounded disappointed. "Ok. See ya!" Hikaru said and we went on walking. "Ya didn't talk, Nat. Were ya embarrassed around the guy of your dreams?" "Wh-wha-? N-no." I stammered, obviously lying "You were and I know it. I gotta bet for you." Of course she does. "If you can get Raiden to go out with you at last once, I'll stop teasing you about him and I'll ask Suki out." "Alright. You've got a deal." We shook on it, and parted ways.
