Yaaay for Byakuya and Hisana!

I have no idea what made me write this, but I like it, I guess.

Disclaimer: If I were Tite Kubo, I would let Yachiru show off her attacks in battle!

"Thank you for coming with me. Good night." He gently kissed her, embracing her in his arms.

"G-good night," she stammered, quickly breaking the embrace and slipping indoors.

A twinge of guilt gripped her as she slid the door shut in his face. But it wasn't her fault, she convinced herself. It wasn't her fault he stood at the door with a hurt expression on his face, and walked home wondering what he did wrong.

She sighed in relief. Then the tears came, and she didn't try to stop them.

He was everything she had ever wanted in a man. She had known that the first time they slipped out to look at the stars together. He was polite, courteous, considerate, handsome… the list was endless.

So why hold back?

She knew perfectly well what was wrong.

The truth, painful as it was to say: He was a noble and she wasn't.

Her mind agreed with her reasoning. Her heart was screaming, "What the hell kind of painful truth is THAT??? What does social status matter?? Does it matter to you???"

Well, no. It didn't.

But it was important to everyone else. And that was all that mattered.

If their relationship was made public, if they took the next step and got married… probably nothing would happen to her. But as for him… he would be scorned, disgraced, shunned, for marrying a commoner.

She shuddered just at the thought of it. She couldn't let him take all that just for her. She just couldn't.

And yet that selfish side of her refused to let him go.

Still crying, she was fighting an internal battle. What could she do? What would she do? She cried out in frustration, because she knew the answer.

No way would she allow him to sacrifice all he had for her. She would never live with the guilt. Why, why did he do this to her? Did he not care about the pain he was making her go through?

Instant guilt. It wasn't his fault.

The decision suddenly clicked together in her mind. She had to let him forget her; help him live a life without her. Her legs shook as she rose, but her heart was resolute. Retrieving paper and writing utensil, she began the letter.

She ruined five sheets because of her tears. It took forever, but finally she was done.

She frowned. He wouldn't allow her to leave. He would find her eventually, and that was what she didn't want. So… what to do?

It tore her apart inside, imagining his grief. But once again she knew it was all for the best.

----------------------------------------------------------------

He knocked gently on the door. "Hisana?"

No answer. She was usually awake by this time.

"…Hisana?"

When there was still no response, he pulled the doors open.

He knew instantly, from the vacated feel of the house, that it was empty.

That was when he noticed the letter, laid carefully on the table. The writing was readable, but hastily written.

Byakuya:

I know you're worried about me. But please don't be; I'm fine, wherever I am.

I know we were planning to get married, but I thought about it and realized: I don't love or trust you enough to do that.

I'm sorry. I truly am. But I'm leaving so that we both can start over.

Hisana

I thought of this as a oneshot, but while writing it I started reconsidering. It remains a oneshot right now, but if you think it should be otherwise tell me.

REVIEW PLEASE.
