"Hey Potter," Called Lily Evans to James Potter, who was leaning back on his chair at the back of the History of Magic classroom one day in their fifth year, the October light was pouring in through a dusty window to James' left, highlighting his dark and messy hair. Despite the number of living people in the room, there was, no doubt, a dusty and thick feel to the air.
James' eyes lit up at the sound of Lily, Lily Evans no less, saying his name, even if it was just his last.
"Yes, Ginge?" James sit up very abruptly in his chair, making a lot of clatter and noise. Peter woke up from the disruption and looked at James, then put his head back onto the desk and fell asleep again.
"Stop calling me that." She said, tucking her red hair behind her ear, only for it to fall in her peripheral vision again.
"Only when I see you walk down the aisle, with me waiting for you at the end." Said James dreamily.
Lily shook her blushing head at the idea and scrunched up her nose. That would never happen. "Are Sirius and Remus together?"
"What?" Asked James in disbelief. He looked over to his left, to where Sirius and Remus sat, their arms brushing and they seemed to be sitting a little too close to each other. Now James thought about it, they did seem to spend a lot of time with each other. Actually, Remus had spent more time with Sirius in the past month than James had.
But they couldn't be together. No.
Lily sighed. "Are Sirius and Remus dating?" Said Lily slowly.
"Of course not!" Exclaimed James. "Sirius is straight! Have you seen all of those girls he's snogged? And Remus… I don't think Remus bats for either team."
"I've heard of Sirius snogging with all of these girls. But I've never seen it with my eyes, funny, considering I'm in most of his classes and in the same house. Wouldn't I have at least seen him getting out of a broom cupboard or holding hands with a girl? And I bet you're the same as me too, you've never seen him at it, have you?" Said Lily in a very rushed and breathless voice, she loved feeling she was right.
"Well, I haven't…" Muttered James. "But that doesn't mean they're gay together! You're mental. You think too much. I mean, you've only had the one guy a few years back and you're straight!"
"You're in denial. And I bet you ten galleons they get together by the end of sixth year." Said Lily smugly.
"Deal, and if you're right. I won't ever ask you out again." James was also just as smug as Lily.
"And if I'm wrong, I'll go out with you."
And they both shook their fifteen year old hands to seal the deal.
"Brilliant. Ta ta future girlfriend!" James blew her a kiss goodbye. It was a good thing Lily's hair was in her face so James couldn't see her turn scarlet.
"Don't make me get a restraining order on you." Warned Lily.
"Baby, you can't restrain this." James boasted and ran his fingers through his hair.
Lily rolled her eyes, she was going to win, she just knew it. She had to.
