Merry Christmas!
Maylene hung the last mistletoe in the hallways of the mansion.
Suddenly, she slipped off the ladder and landed on her butt with a dull thud.
She moved her glasses to the top of her head and groaned.
Then Maylene glanced at the mistletoe and laughed softly.
With that, she slid her glasses back onto the bridge of her nose and smiled at her handy work.
"Are you done, Maylene?" asks Sebastian with a smile.
"Oh! S-S-Sebastian!" says Maylene with a blush while straightening her posture.
"Is that the last one?" asks Sebastian while glancing at the cieling with his hands over his eyes, shielding them from the lights blinding rays.
"Y-y-yes," says Maylene with another blush. She grabs onto the hems of her uniform and fingers it nervously.
"Is there something you wish to say?" asks Sebastian while glancing at Maylene. He walks up to her and stares at her briefly.
Maylene stood there, dazed.
"N-no! John!" yells a beautifully decorated woman in her mid thirties. She sits there, on the marbled floor, holding her dearest in her arms. "No! P-please, don't d-die on me!" Tears streamed down her lightly powdered cheeks and fell onto the floor.
Maylene retracted her sniper rifle and watched as blood spilled from the man's head and onto the glossy floor.
As she was about to grab her equipment and head back, she hears a small voice.
"Mommy?"
A gasp escapes the woman's lips as she sees her four year old son standing by the door, staring at her with those innocent eyes.
"What happened to Daddy?" he asks as he walks closer to see his dear father. "Is Daddy sleeping? Won't he miss Santa if he doesn't wake up?"
The woman breaks down in tears and holds her beloved to her chest but manages to utter a small phrase to her son.
"Daddy's going into a deep sleep, honey. And he might not see Santa anymore," says the woman with a forced smile.
Her son looks at her and cries but not for his fathers death.
He cried because his father won't be able to see Santa anymore.
"-lene"
"May-"
"Maylene!" says Sebastian while grabbing onto Maylene's shoulders with worry.
Tears streamed down her face as she remembered that faithful day. The day she robbed a child of a father, on Christmas day, no less. She trembled in his arms and grabbed onto her head, feeling the images flood into her head in waves.
"Maylene!" says Sebastian while shaking her gently, bringing her out of her daze.
"S-S-Sebas... tian?" says Maylene. She realizes what just happened and looks away, ashamed. She pushed her glasses up, revealing chocolate colored eyes with a tint of red in them. "S-sorry."
Sebastian frowns slightly but stays silent. He embraces her in a hug, wrapping his arms around her waist, making her rest her head on his shoulder.
She breathes in his scent and sighs sadly.
Those images still haunted her. She could remember the face of the man that she viciously robbed from the newly wedded couple.
It made her sick.
Maylene felt his grip tighten ever so slightly.
"Sebast-" before she has a chance to say his name, he places a kiss on her lips, silencing her all together. Stunned, she places her hands on his chest, trying to push him away.
He lets go but smiles.
Maylene looks at him. Her unspoken question shows through her eyes, asking for answers.
He says nothing but points a gloved finger at the cieling.
She looks up and stays silent.
Then she lets out a hearty laugh and smiles back.
They were standing under the mistletoe she just put up.
