Disclaimer: I don't own Doctor Who or the characters…I'm so sad now, I want a big bowl of fudge. L

A/N: I usually don't like anything that makes the Doctor sad, (like the last 5 minutes of season 2...you know what I'm talking about.) but the thought came to me, so here it is. Be kind or don't read.

Bittersweet-one shot

Sometimes, after a long day of keeping the universe safe, he still thinks about her.

Or, when he's trying to help his current companion find something era appropriate from the wardrobe room, and he comes across that one purple shirt. Never touched, and always kept in perfect condition by the Tardis. Sometimes, a companion will consider wearing it. He always tells her no, not that one, never that one.

Most of the time she is a fleeting thought. He knows that his Human/Time-lord self is with her, he knows that she isn't alone. There are rare moments, when he comes across a Dalek or Slitheen, when her mischievous smile flashes in his mind's eye. Those brief moments or far off reminders hobble him, leaving him breathless and feeling weak. In those moments he finally wants to be done with his too long life. The life that has been so difficult to live, so painful. He continues on, in spite of the void that is in both of his hearts and consuming him, so that he can protect the plant that gave him his favorite gift.

Now he sits in his room, in the dark, while his newest companion is somewhere on the ship, holding that shirt. Peering into it, as if it could tell him how to fix the mess that his feelings have turned into.

He knows that, technically, he got a life with her, a domestic life. He and the "other" doctor were the same after all, but it still hurt that his other self could giver her something that he couldn't.

The clock in his room rang and that Doctor got up, took the shirt back to the wardrobe room, and went back to saving the Earth.

500 years ago, on the hour Rose Smith died along with her husband John.

Fin.

A/N 2: Ok, so this is technically my first story, so…be kind. I may be a little biased because I love Rose as a companion, she was my favorite. BUT…she is followed closely by Donna and Amy Pond. AND the new season starts March 2011, so keep your eyes open for it! Please review and tell me what you think, KIND criticism is welcome.

Also I am going to rewrite Season 3 with Rose! I'm working on it now, so if you liked this story keep your eyes open! BYE-BYE!

Peace Out Suckers!
