Care Bears fanfic.
As usual Grumpy Bear was alone and feeling low. He sat alone with a cup of steaming, bitter coffee and watched Bedtime Bear and Wish Bear reading a book together cheerfully. The other seven Care Bears were down on Earth doing 'Important Care Work' helping children to quarrel less. 'Bunch of bloody hippies.' He muttered to himself morosely. Both he and his suggestions were ignored – possibly due to his less than positive outlook. 'There's no justice and precious little mercy in this life.' There was a grim satisfaction in his voice as he stated this. Then his grouchiness fell away as he glanced down and caught sight of someone who really needed his help. He swung into action with the ease of long practice.
'Are you sure you don't want to get it off your chest with a good moan before you do something drastic? I'm a good listener.' He stood on the edge of the building roof nervously and implored the young man standing beside him.
The young man just gave him a hollow-eyed look of defeat. Several days' worth of stubble decorated his jaw and he stank of nervous sweat, neglect and greasy hair. 'I'm done talking. I've talked to five, yes five shrinks in the past two years. They just gave me more Seroxat and a thinly disguised homily on pulling myself together. I am done with talking!' He spat the final word venomously. The bitterness and complete lack of hope in his companion's voice took Grumpy aback.
'But….' He reached forward impetuously to comfort the man.
Grumpy caught the trembling man's hand as he leaned forwards and the thin fingers slipped through Grumpy's furry grasp before he could react. The blue bear glanced down at the spattered mess seventeen floors below. 'Fifth this month. It always gets me.' He kept a moment's silence, then wandered off in search of a cheap pub.
