After the song "Not While I'm around," Mrs. Lovett is still holding Toby in her arms.
"That was nice, Toby, my boy," she said as she looked at his sad eyes. She had just noticed that his eyes looked like this. "Toby?" she said pulling his shoulders so he would face her.
"Yes, mum?" he said trying to be calm about Mr. Todd. He tried to be calm because that is what she, Mrs. Lovett. wanted.
"Wot's wrong, boy?" she asked with her hands still on his shoulders.
"I told you, mum," he started, "Mr. T.; he isn't one to be around."
"That all?" she asked in disbelief. Yes, she had heard what was wrong with Mr. T, but she had thought that Toby stopped trying. Apperently not. Toby nodded, but she still wasn't buying it. "Ya know, Toby, you can always tell meh wot's on your mind."
"I know, mum," he said. He turned away from her, but looked as if he was deciding if he was going to speak something or not. "We aren't related, ya know." He said. Mrs. Lovett chuckled at that remark. Of course they weren't related. Was it not obvious?
"Yes, Deary," she said smiling, "Oi think we both already knew that." She got up quickly and brushed some dirt off of Toby's clothes. "Whot makes ya say that?" she asked still dusting off Toby's clothes.
"Well," Toby started. After a pause he said, "Nuth'n just..." Mrs. Lovett paused to hear what he was going to say.
"C'mon, out wit' it, Toby," she said grinning once more. Toby observed her face as she said this.
"Ya have a nice smile, Mrs. Lovett," Mrs. Lovett's face grew confused.
"Mrs. Lovett? Wot' makes ya call me that?" she asked, but remembered her original question, "And after ya tell me that, you can answer me original questin."
"I don't know," said Toby frowning. He was thinking out his words. "I been thinkin'... Why do you fancy Mr. T again?" Mrs. Lovett was now irked.
"Toby!" she said frowning, "Oi thot weh been over this!"
"We have," started Toby now trying to hide a smile, "Sorry."
"Wot you smilin' for?" asked Mrs. Lovett with her hands on her hips.
"Well, mum..." he began. "Mrs. Lovett," he corrected himself, "I been thinkin', since you ain't me real blood mum, I thot it'd be okay if-"
"Spit it out, boy," she replied hands still on her hips.
"I thot it won't be too wrong to love ya the way you love Mr. Todd." Silence was now all there was. Mrs. Lovett's eyes were wide as an owls and she stood there frozen. She felt sorry for the boy. He must've been very baffled. She decided she better something so she walked over and hugged Toby.
"Toby," she said, "Oi think you just may be a little confused."
"No, oi don't think so Mrs.," he replied as he pulled out of her hug.
"Uh," she said, but had no other reply, "Oi think ya better go off yo bed, Toby." She pointed to the door and did not know what else to say. "Oh and please no more of thot "Mrs. Lovett'."
"Why not?" asked Toby.
"Oi liked it better when you called me 'mum'... Ya know jus' cos we ain't blood related doesn't mean we ain't thot kind o' family," she said quickly.
Toby, unconvinced, said, "'Kay, mum..." He walked away, but soon turned around and said, "If anythin'... or anyone does harm you though... I'll do wot' ever it takes to kill em. I'll kill em." Mrs. Lovett began to walk toward him.
"That's nice, deary... now off ya go."
