Constant

Disclaimer: I do not own Galactik Football and I make no money from this fanfiction.

Aarch had always had a thirst for knowledge, not the information that you typically found in academic journals or textbooks, but the things you found out for yourself. He was a practical man, after all. His father would tell stories of how he used to get into everything ever since he could crawl, how he'd always make a mess along the way. He would then also fondly recall that, in contrast, Norata had been perfectly well behaved.

As Aarch had grown up, he'd come to realise that in actual fact, it was people who were the greatest mysteries- which was what made them most interesting to him. He'd never thought of himself as either straight or gay, he was just interested in people and people were always interested in him. He'd never believed in cheating, he'd never set out to hurt anyone, but he had always found it difficult to stay with one person for any long stretch of time.

He'd had a few girlfriends before Adium, but no-one serious. She'd had an appeal that the others didn't; she was a footballer just like him. He'd met plenty of girls who were only concerned with their appearance, it was refreshing to meet her, she wouldn't hesitate to get sweaty or muddy in aid of her sport. Not that she wasn't beautiful and feminine off the pitch; it was the fact that she could be both that intrigued him. The only problem was that after a while he got bored, it didn't take him too long to realise that Adium really wasn't all that complicated, she was always pretty open about her feelings. In truth, he'd outgrown her long before he left for the Shadow's Archipelago, he just didn't know how to end it without hurting her feelings.

He'd been friends with Artegor before that but spending so much time together, being the only two humans, it was only natural that they would get closer. Artegor was completely different to most people that Aarch had met, he was deeply introverted, and unlike Adium, he didn't tell Aarch all his thoughts, happily, without hesitation. Artegor just always seemed alone, self-supporting; Aarch was used to having a gaggle of people surrounding him, he wasn't sure how anyone could live like that. It had taken him by surprise that Artegor grew so attached to him, that he would refuse to ever really let go of the first person who showed him love.

He'd run again, both times had been fuelled by necessity- the first time it was the need to continue playing; the second was motivated by something even more fundamental than that- the need to stay alive. It wasn't that he was running from anyone, it was all just a side-effect.

His healer, Dame Simbai, was different than either Adium or Artegor. In fact, she was more like him than she initially appeared, and she had that exotic appeal. By the time it came for him to leave though, she waved him off cheerily, with no hard feelings.

There were others over the years and there were those who never feel for his particular brand of charm. Keira, for example, her beautiful golden eyes never wandered from Norata, and Aarch knew better than to try and interfere with his brother's happiness. He wondered what it was like, to have a relationship that stable, he'd certainly never experienced it.

The only constant in his life was football.

That's it for now. I know this isn't my best or most original fic, but I've been having trouble writing recently, so I'll take what I can get. Reviews are always much appreciated.
