What if she actually doesn't even like him? And what will happen if something changes her life within seconds which forces her to rethink the way her life is going at the moment. Is she going to accept Elijah's help?

Prolog: Memories

„Stop doing that!", Hayley shouted angrily as she turned around only to see the person which she had expected. The man immediately stopped his movements. His hands typically resting in his trouser pockets. That amused smile was really annoying lately.

"What?", the man dressed in a white shirt, a black suit and a grey tie asked – his voice provoking her and it was obviously on purpose.

"God damn it, Elijah!", the young woman yelled, stormed into his direction and slapped him. Elijah blinked a few times but wasn't surprised at all.

"I don't want you to follow me all the time! I am able to protect myself, you know? Stop that freaky noble nonsense!", she added – her eyes clouded with anger.

"Freaky noble nonsense?", he asked while touching his still a bit burning cheek. Hayley knew that the Original was teasing her.

"Yes! You maybe believe that this is a nice way to get what you want from a woman. Perhaps that's just an awkward scam of yours which you are using every time while women are around", Hayley decried him. "But let me tell you: This isn't working with women like, vampire. It's just boring and annoying!"

Elijah couldn't stop himself from laughing loudly due to the words of the little sweet wolf. Yes, he really liked her.

"It's very interesting to hear what you are thinking about me, Hayley. Your fantasy is magnificent. But to be perfectly honest with you I have to admit that it's very sexy to see you going mad at me like that", Elijah told her and smirked as soon as he noticed her confused look. While Hayley was around he acted completely different sometimes which was easily to notice by his use of language – normally he would never say something like that out loud but Elijah just couldn't stop himself most of the time.

"Go to hell, Elijah! Honestly!", she now yelled. Hayley sent him one last if-looks-could-kill look before she quickly walked away – and Elijah didn't stop her.

No, he wouldn't follow her again – at least for now. Elijah couldn't help himself from quietly laughing again. This woman was really something special he thought as his mind wandered back to the day at which he had met her for the first time…

Elijah was on his way home. It was a terrible day… Again he had been forced to stop his brother Niklaus from doing something very foolish. Furthermore Rebekah was in a bad mood today and Elijah had some problems to calm her down. Actually he had visited his favorite café in the city to calm himself down by drinking a coffee. It had been his plan to sit down and relax but as soon as he had ordered a coffee Rebekah had called him and due to her upset voice he had known that he had to return home – immediately. He sighed. Sometimes he was really angry because of Nik's behavior and that he always had to mother him in some way – even though he would never admit that if somebody would ask him about it.

The Original was heading home quickly – his still hot coffee to go in his left hand. The streets were full of people and he tried his best to get through the crowd as fast as possible as he suddenly collided with a brunette – spilling all the hot coffee over her shirt.

"Oh! I do apologize for that!", Elijah immediately said as soon as he had realized what had just happened.

"Ouch, that's fucking hot! Are you blind? You just ruined my favorite shirt!", she yelled angrily which surprised Elijah. She was beautiful with her long dark hair and he knew that he could get lost in her eyes if he would continue to look into them only a bit longer.

"Please, forgive me! I have been lost in my thoughts. I am going to replace your ruined shirt. Furthermore I could buy us two new coffees if you want to", Elijah offered while handing over his handkerchief from his suit pocket even though that wouldn't help anymore – he only wanted to be polite especially because she was so upset right now.

"Wow, seriously? You have just ruined my shirt because you wanted to use a very old pick-up line so that you can ask me for my phone number later on?", she replied – her voice filled with disdainfulness.

"I have never had the intention to ask you for your phone number", Elijah answered and it was the truth but he couldn't stop himself from smirking. Somehow he loved her temperament.

"Yeah, of course. For me it looks like a typical cliché how to get in contact with a foreign woman. Have you made a bet with some of your friends or what?", the brunette wanted to know while looking curiously around.

"No, I didn't. But still I would like to ask you in for an afternoon coffee", Elijah told her while he couldn't stop himself from laughing. "Believe me when I say that what just happened wasn't on purpose."

Elijah couldn't put it into words but he was really hoping that she would accept his offer. He had to admit that he hadn't met such an interesting woman for decades – and yet he didn't even know her. Before the woman could answer somebody interrupted them.

"Hey, sweety! Long time no see! Haven't you promised to call me after the last night?", a blonde man said as he stopped next to the brunette – a knowing smile on his lips.

"Oh hey, Brad! Yes, I am sorry… Lost your number", she replied but Elijah could easily see that she was annoyed by meeting that guy again.

"My name is Kevin, my dear. And there you go", he said while handing over a little piece of paper at which he had written his phone number. "Don't lose it again", he whispered as he kissed her softly at her cheek – he wasn't even angry about the fact that the woman couldn't remember his name.

As soon as the guy was gone the young woman sighed and closed her eyes for a short moment. A few seconds later she threw the little paper at the street.

"It seems like you are in great demand", the Original pointed out while placing his hands in his trouser pockets – his grin only grew due to her reaction.

"You have no idea", she told him and shook her head – now in a bad mood. "Well, anyway… I have to go now. Don't worry about the shirt. Was a cheap one", the brunette admitted but before she could walk away Elijah stopped her by gently grabbing her upper arm.

"Wait! Tell me at least your name", he asked her. He could never let her go without anything from her.

Due to that question she only started to laugh and suddenly moved closer.

"It seems like I have been right all the time. Well, you will have to find out, man in a suit", she whispered into his ear which made him immediately shiver to the feeling of her hot breath at his skin.

Elijah wanted to ask her how he should find that out and why she couldn't just tell him what he wanted to know but he couldn't. He was kind of stunned by the appearance right in front of him and her pure beauty while she was so close to him. After all it was too late. As soon as he was able to say something again she was gone and he had no idea in which direction. Well, he was one of the Originals. It couldn't be too hard to find out what name was hidden behind that temperamental woman.

As soon as she was gone he finally remembered that he actually had to hurry because his siblings were already waiting for him. This woman had been very impressive and Elijah knew that he had to find out who she was – if he wouldn't it would kill him.

Right now Elijah was lying in his bed. He was only wearing a pair of boxers – it was about four o'clock in the morning. Even though Elijah was very tired he just wasn't able to sleep so he had no other option than again thinking about Hayley.

He couldn't understand why she was dating so many men at the same time. She only wanted to find one for a night and that was it. Elijah knew that kind of behavior only from men but not from women and that really confused him. He had no idea why a woman would do something like that – especially Hayley was just too intelligent for such a nonsense. Hayley deserved something better. A man who deeply cared for her and who could give her all the things she really needed.

Elijah had often tried to talk to her about that but she always refused to speak about it. Well, he had to admit that he was somehow jealous. Of course Elijah didn't know her for a very long time yet but still he didn't like the idea of her changing her men like underwear. Furthermore he was a bit worried. Worried that she could meet a bad man who could try to harm her.

She still believed that he only wanted to date her. Yes, it was true he would have loved to date her someday but after all Elijah only wanted the best for that woman.

Suddenly he heard how a door was closed quietly and how a person was sneaking past his door. Elijah knew that his brother Klaus had conquered another woman last night – he also used to have several women lately – and he had to confess that he was quiet curious if that woman was fleeing from his brother right now.

Elijah smirked as he got up and opened his door so that he could look at their corridor. To his big surprise the woman was right in front of his door as he opened it and as soon as she noticed that somebody had noticed her she immediately stopped her movements – turning her head towards him.

The smirk on Elijah's face was gone within seconds. He was shocked and had to clear his throat before he was able to say something.

"Hayley? What are you doing here?", he asked confused but of course he already knew the answer – and it nearly broke his heart.

"You are his brother? You are an Original as well? Wow, I…", Hayley said and was shocked by herself which surprised Elijah. After all she had always been kind of unfriendly towards him – but suddenly she was back in her I-don't-care-about-you mood. "Well, I think that you don't have to ask what I have been doing here, Elijah. Anyway, I would like to leave know", she added while putting on her jacket and her shoes. Elijah hadn't even noticed the way she was looking like. Her hair was a mess but still she was so perfect.

"I will see you to the door", Elijah offered and leaded the way. Hayley followed him but Elijah couldn't ignore the fact that she was inspecting his body. The Original had completely forgotten that he was still wearing only a pair of boxers – but he didn't feel embarrassed even though it was a very strange situation.

"Are you sure that I shouldn't drive you home? It's late and dangerous for a woman out there", Elijah started and interrupted her inspection as he turned around to face her again. Even though he was jealous and shocked that Hayley even slept together with his brother Klaus he had to grin due to the look in her eyes. After all she liked what she was seeing and that really pleased him – after all it wasn't hopeless.

"Hell, no! I am a werewolf! I am no stupid woman who doesn't know how to protect herself. As I told you so many times already", Hayley answered him through clenched teeth but right now Elijah knew that this behavior was just a façade which he had cracked somehow. This only made it even much more interesting for Elijah to find out why she was acting that way she did. He needed to get to know her more closely – there was no other option – and Elijah's goal was to help her. The vampire knew that he could actually help her – it felt like his duty even though he didn't know that woman for a long time yet.

"Alright, as you wish. Have a good night, Hayley", Elijah said politely and as soon as she had stormed out of the mansion he closed door and sighed.

A little review for me? ;)
