Chapter One
It had been 5 months since Edward left. I was laying on my bed, crying, holding myself together. I had just gotten back from my disastrous night with Jessica. The huge whole in my chest ate at itself, burning. I had just woken up, alert, for the first time in months. No more numbness.
I was just pulling over, gasping for breath. I wanted the numbness to engulf me again. I had just left the Newton's store. My mind had wandered and, without my permission, went straight to… him. I couldn't breath as I laid sideways in the front of my truck. How could he think I would really forget him? It was impossible. It always would be.
I sat up slowly, hitting my head on the steering wheel, trying to distract myself from the pain. I held my sides tightly, turning my knuckles white. As my mind wandered to other things, like being reckless in Forks, the pain eased. I leaned back against my seat, breathing easier. I sat there for a while, my mind blank. Maybe the numbness was coming back.
I opened my door and stepped out into the light rain. I stared blankly across the street. Then my mind began to go back in gear. On the other side of the road there were 2 motorcycles, a black one and a red one. Next to them was a large sign that read:
For Sale
I walked across the street, not taking my eyes off the sign. I smiled when I got up to it and walked to the front door. A sandy-haired freshman opened the door. He only came up to my shoulder.
"Bella Swan?" He said, confused.
"How much do you want for the bike?" I asked, going straight to business.
"Are you serious?" He tilted his head to the side, more confused.
"Of course I am," I rolled my eyes.
"They don't work."
"How much?" I sighed.
"If you really want one, take it. My mom ordered my dad to get them out of the garage."
"Are you positive about that?" I glanced at the bikes again.
"Sure, you want to ask her?"
"No," I said it a little to quickly. "I believe you."
"You want me to help you? They're not light."
"Okay, thanks. I only need one, though."
"Might as well take both. Maybe you could scavenge some parts."
We walked out to the bikes, getting wet. We got them into my truck and I was off.
I thought about how to fix them. The mechanic in Forks was famous for his prices. Not in a good way. That's when Jacob popped into my head.
