Jayla and the Dragon

Boom! Rolls the thunder outside the refugee community. I wonder what will happen today in the community of Draco. As I look out the window I ask my mother why our community has such a weird name. She tells me that long ago there were dragon caves all over the camp. When all the houses were built the dragons started disappearing, and no one has seen one since.
I jump with surprise as the window opens sending a draft in to the room. As I go to close it I notice that the star's light looks very faint. I close the windows with a sigh, and I tell my mother the stars look faint tonight. She nods her head and walks to her room, when she is gone I gaze out the window and stare at the moon. As I'm about to leave my window seat I notice a dark shadow across the moon. I shake my head in disbelief and go to bed.
In the morning I go out to the garden to water the anise seeds before breakfast. I remember that the watering can I'm using was loaned by my friend Ana. I walk inside and tell my mom that we need to return it soon. She nods her head and says we will do it later. I also mention that we need to buy one of our own, but she says that we are very poor. I nod my head and kiss her goodbye as I am getting ready to go to the market to look at the goods.
While I'm walking I see a man with a rusty old cup and a long beard I stop and start to walk towards him. When I am close to him I ask him if he is ok. He talks to me in such a faint voice that I can barely hear, " Too old I can't get a job." I nod my head and reach into my pocket to pull out half of my spending money and give it to him. He grins weakly at me and gets up slowly. He shakes his hand as if to tell me to follow. I consider about following him and eventually I am following him.
We slowly, but surely walk up a valley to a place filled with rocks. I look at the large cave with awe and I ask him where are we? I open my mouth wide as he talks about as strong as I can," Thank you for your help, I was sitting there for so long and no one but you noticed and helped me. I shall reward you greatly." I gasp in surprise when a bright light shines from his long beard and takes over his body.
The next thing you know the man has turned into a pale white dragon. The dragon asks me what is my name and I reply, Jayla. He tells me you have shown a great heart and I will be loyal to you as long as I live. I nod my head still shocked by the transformation. He chuckles at me and tells me hop on. I was too amazed to doubt a thing I hopped on. All of a sudden we launch into the air and I smile with joy. As we are flying I ask him what his name is and he tells me Stonetail. I tell him that I need to get back to my home as the sun starts to set. He says ok and lands in the field behind my house. I tell him thanks and start to walk back, but he says wait. I turn back and he says take this and pulls out a bag of coins. I gaze at the bag with awe and say thanks once again and head back to the house.
I will never forget the flight with Stonetail and I will always pass on the dragon stories.
