Their mission to find the legendary Earth after the destruction of their colonies had been successful, all that remained of the human race had survived. Survived the trials of living in deep space, the disaster of Gaius Baltar's rein as President and resulting occupation of New Caprica, not to mention the number of other crises that had been thrown their way following the attack on the colonies by the Cylons.
Thinking of those past events now, Laura Roslin released a small sigh, one of contentment, and revelled in the thought that they had indeed survived and now had a place that the human race could call home, as William Adama had promised the people all those years ago on the hanger deck of Galactica.
Sat wrapped in the red tartan blanket on board the Raptor, Laura closed her eyes and listened to the husky voice of Bill Adama as he talked about how he was going to build her a cabin by a lake, with water so clear that it would be like looking through glass. She smiled to herself at the familiar description, she knew by the way that he was talking, that he would do anything to make sure the cabin was exactly what she had described to him at the groundbreaking ceremony on New Caprica, even if she couldn't be around to enjoy it.
At this particular thought, she turned her head to look at the Admiral sat in the Raptor's pilot seat next to her, a tender expression crossed his usually stoic features when he noticed the movement. Smiling at her, he moved to caress the side of her face with his knuckles, eliciting a soft hum from her before taking her hand and pressing a soft kiss to her fingertips.
"Look out the window." he told her softly, releasing her hand to guide the Raptor over a lake. In all her time as a teacher on Caprica, Laura had never seen anything like the pink birds that were removing themselves from the path of Raptor. To her they seemed elegant and majestic in their own way, and she felt privileged to of been able to witness anything like it in her lifetime.
"So much…life."
Laura closed her eyes again. As she felt Bill make minor adjustments to the flight of the Raptor, time seemed to go so slowly, she heard him talk about the wildlife of the continent that they had found themselves on. She could gladly sit and be lulled by the gravelly timbre of his voice that she had come to love for a eternity, just as she could gladly just sit in the presence of the man seated next to her, a man whom she a come to love deeply with every fibre of her being, but at this moment she was content to know, her journey was complete.
