Was it fate that intermixed with the travels of a species? Was man truly meant to discover the "vast unknown"? Why do we continue to break what used to be believed unbreakable boundries? Do we continue to temp fate by ripping out and rewriting the pages? Why reach for the stars?

Story 1: THE STORY BOOK
John Gallow
"...Captain Draxton stood at his window, his ready room dark with the tone of soon to be armed conflict. The mood of the crew, weary, tired and anxious. The Federation had fallen into chaos and with chaos came destruction, with destruction death. Who would of thought the Federation would of been the keeper of its own demise, on that even God would not be able to escape. The ship under Draxton's command floated along side many others from various species in an attempt to stop the impossible, Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Terrans, Gorn, and Breen, all the major powers drifted along side of each other in one final attempt for life. The question ran through every ones mind, would this battle be their last breath? The last breath for galactic peace and civilization?..."
Jonas Forbidon sat on his bed at home. The coolness of the night time air trimmed over his back like water over a smooth rock. He held in his hands a real book, one that had been written many years ago. Most people never read books anymore, "to primitive" is what they would say. Now a days people would just think of what they wanted to read or hear about and it came directly from the implants that lay in the owner's brain. See, Jonas was different some how, he strived to be different, wanted to learn more and more about the Federation of old. But the more he strived to learn the more was hidden from him in attempt to keep him away. His parents had told him storys of the time before, and how the mighty Federation fell, and fell hard it did, like ancient Rome, and the old Earth state The United States of America. "All great nations fall in the end, but we are great, we are a combined galatic Republic that is open to all and cannot fall. " is what was told to him time after time. For some reason Jonas couldn't believe that, he wouldn't believe that they were exempt from the same fate as everyone else. Why would the book and story be any bit as different for them. He turned his thoughts back to the book...
"... As the wrekage of the ships floated freely in space like the first astronauts of Earth, the enemy that had destroyed the galactic balance in this quadrent, began to die, the reason unkown the enemy just dropped to their knees and bowed making the origional stepping blocks for the Galactic Republic to be given birth to. For this proved that in the darkest of rooms a candle still burns giving off even the smallest of light."
Jonas closed the book and looked at the cover, " but can't the candle be blown out?" he asked himself.
