Come To Me
Summary: Kristina and Valerie talk.
Kristina knocked on the door to Valerie's apartment gently. As she waited for Valerie to answer, she fidgeted nervously, tugging at the pants she wore and with her top. Her hands flew to her hair and she ran her fingers through it before she let her arms fall to her sides as the door swung open.
Valerie's eyes widened when she saw her and she opened the door. "Kristina? What are you doing here at eight in the morning on New Year's Day?
The shorter woman shook her head. "I had to come and see you." She answered. "I don't like where we left things between us, Val."
Valerie thought of what Michael had told her the night before and stepped aside. "Do you want to come in? We can talk about things in here."
Kristina threw her a look of surprise and stepped inside. She stood awkwardly in the middle of the room, unsure of what exactly to do.
"I just made a pot of coffee. Would you like some?" Valerie offered asked her.
"Sure." The other woman said, biting her lip. As soon as Valerie was out of sight, she took a seat on the small couch and glanced around. Her gaze landed on a picture of she and Valerie at the local lake this past summer. They were both clothed in their swimsuits, hair wet, and beaming smiles upon their lips and pressed impossibly close together. She was still staring at the picture when Valerie walked back into the room and handed her a mug of coffee, made exactly the way that she liked it. She cupped the mug in her hands and took a sip.
Valerie noticed what she was looking at and smiled. "I've always liked that picture." She said fondly. She gazed at Kristina. "I'm sorry for how I reacted a couple of weeks ago. And for how I've been acting since. It's...absolutely inexcusable."
Kristina shook her head. "No, it was my fault. I shouldn't have just kissed you like that. I didn't even think about the fact that you might not want it. I screwed up."
The detective looked away, feeling a blush stain her cheeks. "I wasn't upset because I didn't want it. I was scared because of how much I enjoyed it. You're my friend, Krissy. It scares me that you made me feel things I didn't even know I was capable of." She licked her lips and reached out for Kristina's hand. "I've never felt like this about any of the guys I've dated. I never even knew I was attracted to women until you came along. And I've been thinking about it, and I think I've liked you since I kissed you at The Floating Rib a year ago to make Parker jealous. I just shoved those feelings down. And then when you kissed me, I just couldn't anymore."
"It scares me too, Valerie. I don't exactly have the best track record with relationships. And I struggled when I realized I was bisexual too, Valerie. I'd only ever been with men until I met Parker. But god, the way I feel about you is stronger than whatever I felt for Parker. And I'm willing to take the risk to give us a chance if you are." Kristina said, gazing into Valerie's eyes, hand holding hers.
Valerie studied her momentarily and then cupped her face. Her lips pressed to Kristina's gently at first, becoming deeper when Kristina responded.
Kristina leaned into the kiss, her hands went to hold Valerie's waist as the kiss deepened. She smiled into the kiss as Valerie did the same.
When they pulled back, they were both breathless with their cheeks flushed. Kristina's hair was a mess around her shoulders and a shy smile curved Valerie's lips. Neither woman knew what would happen next, but they were looking forward to handling this new year together, whatever it may throw at them.
