The Letter
Sage Potter wiped the tears from her eyes as she accepted the letter from Ron, "My father left this for me?"
Ron nodded, "He wanted me to give this to you, when he, well he, exited our world.
Sage hugged her godfather and then retreated to a chair in the Potter living room to read the letter her father left her:
Dear Sage,
I know I haven't been the father I could have been. Or should have been. But I did love you. I wanted you to have a better life than I ever had. You mean more to me than anything. You are my star in the sky and the hope in my heart. Your mother would be so proud of you.
There are several things I'm sure you would like to know. Those answers could probably be best found with your godfather. Ron knows me better than anyone, even better than your mother did.
Again I feel I must apologize for not really being there for you while you were growing up but I wanted to make sure Voldemort and his followers stayed down. It would not have been fair to you to grow up in the world I did.
And despite all my objections I am very happy about your upcoming marriage to William Malfoy. He is completely different from his family. I am sorry for doubting your word. But please do watch out for Draco Malfoy. He cares for no one or nothing but himself.
I have left all my possessions to you. The house, the Manor of Black, your mother's things, my parents' things. They are all yours. I know you will be a great auror someday.
I love you my darling and please heed my advice: do not be the parent I have. You may have turned out wonderful but I had nothing to do with that and you know it.
All my love,
Father
Sage sucked in a breath and looked up at her godfather again, "What did he mean all those questions?"
"Questions about him, I could probably best answer."
Sage sighed, "You didn't hate him when mother died?"
Ron shook his head, "He may not have been there when Ginny passed but she knew it was for the better good and wanted him gone, at any rate."
Sage looked away, "He grew up with no parents, why did he have to leave me alone all the time?"
Ron knelt down in front of niece, "Because he loved you so much."
Sage nodded, "I just wish that, that-"
"He died the way he wanted to."
Sage nodded again, "I know, taking out Draco Malfoy. I know."
