"Doctor? Where are we going?" Clara Oswald asked as the Doctor led her through the streets of New York City.
"Somewhere," he said lightly as they ran across a street to a park.
Clara laughed and rolled her eyes. She hardly noticed when the Doctor didn't laugh as well.
They reached a large iron gate in front of a foggy graveyard when he stopped her.
"Clara, listen to me," the Doctor said said seriously. "You are not the first."
"What?"
"You are not the first companion I've had. I've had many. And in your time, a year ago today, two of my very best ones died. Rory and Amy."
Clara's face fell. "How?" She whispered.
The Doctor looked away. "Touch of an Angel."
Clara didn't ask what he meant by Angel. She only followed him into the graveyard and towards a grave in the centre.
The Doctor knelt in front of it and squeezed his eyes shut. Clara knelt beside him and read the names to herself.
'In loving memory of Arthur Williams, aged 82, and his loving wife Amelia, aged 87.'
"I thought you said his name was Rory," Clara whispered, pointing at the first name.
"I did."
"But it says Arthur."
The Doctor's eyes flashed open and he stared at the names. "I thought for sure it said Rory..." He jumped to his feet and started looking around.
"Doctor..." Clara said quietly, standing up.
"No, really, it did say Rory..."
"Doctor," Clara said, a little more urgently. She put her hand on his shoulder and was staring at something behind them,
"Why does it say Arthur?"
"Doctor!" Clara spun him around and showed him what she saw.
A little ways away from them, looking into the graveyard through the tall iron fence, were two adults.
A man and a woman.
And the woman had wavy red hair.
"No..." The Doctor gasped. "It... it can't be..." He took off running towards the couple.
He got to the fence and saw Amelia and Rory Pond grinning at him.
"I think we were way off, Doctor," Amy said.
"Yeah, see, the- the Angel only took us back a year. It wasn't us, on the grave, just another poor couple," Rory explained.
"Who's this?" Amelia asked when Clara joined them.
"Clara Oswald," The Doctor said, grinning like a madman. "My... um, well, you see, Clara's my... companion," he managed.
"Hello," Clara said, smiling slightly.
"Funny, she sounds exactly like Oswin, that girl from the Dalek Asylum," Rory said inquizitively.
"I am. You see, I got copied and... long story," Clara explained with a laugh.
"So what do you say, Ponds? We take a trip in the TARDIS for old times sake?" The Doctor asked.
"Sure, if Oswin doesn't mind," Amy added.
"No, hop right in!" Clara said.
The foursome made their way back to the TARDIS and stepped in. The Doctor entered a location and they were off. They were about to learn that letting Rory exit first was a mistake.
