Terminal Nine
Rei glanced out of the window, watching as the crew of the plane docked outside readied for take off. She ground her teeth, annoyed, and instead, looked straight into the eyes of a girl she was likely to never see again, after today. A girl who she had stood by, both in combat and out, for years. A girl who would be taking Rei's heart with her to America… To America where Usagi's precious Mamo-chan waits. Rei almost flinched at the thought. The young priestess ran her hand through her hair in frustration. She didn't like seeing Usagi off alone. None of the other scouts could face coming… Cowards, Rei thought furiously. She lowered her eyes, away from the blue of Usagi's. She let her breath out slowly, measured, and then looked back up.
She's so beautiful. Rei couldn't help but think so. She had never met anyone more beautiful in her life. And maybe she never would again. Rei winced. Her heart felt like it was being cut out of her chest. Damn it.
"Rei-chan," Usagi placed her hand on Rei's arm. "Listen, Rei-chan, I just want you to know-"
"Usagi," Rei couldn't help but interrupt. She didn't want to hear this. Her heart would explode, she was almost sure of it. "You're not gonna get all sentimental on me are ya?"
Usagi's eyes watered. Oh boy, here come the water works. Rei could feel herself getting choked up a bit too… Well, maybe more than a bit.
"Come here…" Rei pulled Usagi into a rare hug, and Usagi's tears spilled over. Even Rei cried, though she contained herself a lot better than the blonde hime.
They pulled apart, Rei hastily drying her eyes on the back of her hand. Usagi looked up at her raven haired friend through still watery eyes. Rei sighed and wiped the tears away from the blonde's cheeks. The priestess rolled her eyes and said jokingly, "It's always drama with you, Usa." Usagi hiccupped and smiled a bit. And Rei couldn't help herself just then. Before she could talk herself out of it, Rei leaned down and brushed her lips against Usagi's. It was over in a heartbeat. Breaking the kiss, Rei whispered into her angel's ear, "Don't forget me."
Usagi shook her head, dumbstruck. "Of course not," She breathed.
Rei nodded, and glanced up. People were starting to board the plane. She felt almost angry…
"I'd better be…" Usagi waved her hand in the general direction of the plane.
Rei nodded again. "Going, yes."
Usagi and Rei locked eyes one more time. "I love you Usagi." Rei muttered. Usagi took Rei's hand in hers for a split second. "Goodbye Rei-chan."
And Rei woke up with tears running down her face, sobs escaping her lips, and shudders racking her body.
