Because I'm an idiot

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto or any of its characters.

A/N

This was inspired by a friend who would pretty much call me an idiot (not directly but yeah) for messing up chances, missing opportunities, etc. for similar reasons. Guess there was some sort of decent outcome to her annoying me like that

"You're an idiot!"

"Yes, you've already told me that."

"It's because you're an idiot!"

"And that's number three."

Her fists were clenched. "I think you need to be told three times you idi-"

"Okay okay!" Shikamaru raised his voice. "I get it Hinata. I'm an 'idiot,' not stupid."

Hinata returned to a more calmer state. "I, I'm sorry Shikamaru, it's just that you ignored a perfect opportunity and probably the last one for a while, all because you..."

She looked at him, confused. "Why did you choose not to see her off?"

Shikamaru scratched his head sheepishly. "I sort of promised Chouji that I'd treat him to lunch today and –"

"Shikamaru!"

"And I think Temari isn't too far away so Chouji will have to wait!" he said, changing his sentence and tone.

Hinata smiled and nodded.

He sighed, walking off. "Later."

Shikamaru picked up the pace, running towards the gate.

"Damn Hinata, she's going to be scarier than Ino at this rate. Ever since she started dating Naruto, she's no longer as innocent as before. Just goes to show that all women are troublesome."

He reached the gate and walked over to those guarding it.

"Temari?"

"The Suna girl? Walked out the gate about five minutes ago. You might want to hurry up if you want to talk to her."

He looked beyond the gate. "Tch, troublesome woman."

He continued running.

If all women are troublesome, why am I pursuing one?

"Why are you here?" A voice broke his train of thought.

He stopped running. "I was asking the same thing myself."

"And?"

"And it's because I'm an idiot."

Temari smiled. "No need to state the obvious, Nara."

She walked closer to him. "Here I thought you weren't even going to say bye."

"You aren't getting away from me so easily."

"Too bad."

He chuckled.

Temari leaned forward, kissing his cheek.

"Later woman."

She continued on her way, smiling. "Yeah, I'll see you soon, lazy-ass."

When she was beyond the trees, he walked back, hands in his pocket and head up towards the sky.

"You may be troublesome now Hinata," he thought aloud, "but at least you were right."

End.
