Sometimes Raistlin wakes up screaming. Sometimes he wakes up clawing at his face and arms. Sometimes he wakes up retching and sobbing. And, when Caramon reaches to help him, Raistlin turns away and pushes down his pain and fears until they don't exist.

Sometimes Caramon stays up all night watching over his twin. Sometimes he lays awake pleading to whatever gods still exist to make Raist be okay. Sometimes he cries hot tears of shame and hurt because he can't do anything to help his brother. And when Raistlin wakes in the morning, he wonders why the sad and tired look on Caramon's face twists his gut with guilt.
