Summary: One-sided Liley. Slash. Don't like it, don't read it. Lilly is Miley's best friend. And that's all she'll ever be.
Author's Notes: I have no plans on extending this one into an actual fic. This is just a drabble. I'm still working on the sequel to "Fighting Fate" :)
Enjoy.
Sidelines
Looking at her, I felt my heart swell. I was sure it would burst. Actually, I was kinda surprised it didn't.
I was backstage as Lola, watching my best friend Miley Stewart, a.k.a. Hannah Montana, perform. I lived for these concerts. And as Miley's best friend, I got to go to a lot of them. And they were always amazing. I was never disappointed.
Her voice, her dancing, her lyrics. Miley.
Because she was always Miley, even with the blonde wig and shiny clothes. I never really saw her as Hannah. Not really.
She was always my Miley.
As if on cue, Bigger Than Us started to play. It was my favorite song. It spoke very clearly of how I felt about my brunette friend. I sighed, singing along under my breath, following Miley with my eyes- imagining she was singing it to me. For me.
I see your face, We all want to believe in love
I look in your eyes
What you feel is no surprise
Everyone needs somethin' to believe in
Tell me your dreams, I'll tell you mine
In our hearts we'll look inside,
And see all the colors of the rainbow,
I know
We all want to believe in something,
Bigger than just us
We all wanna be a part,
Of the greater picture,
That's hangin' in our heart
Yeah, it's bigger than us
By the end of the song, a tear had managed to escape my eyes. I wiped it away angrily. Crying wouldn't solve squat.
Miley closed the concert with Make Some Noise, and thanked the crowd, waving. Then she ran off the stage, straight at me, beaming. Despite my current despondent mood, I smiled back at her, and opened my arms in welcome. She walked right into the hug, wrapping her arms around my waist. I closed my eyes, imagining a different reality, where this same hug could mean something else entirely.
"Awesome job, Miles." I told her quietly.
She stepped back, still grinning. "Thanks. Ready to go home?"
I nodded, and let her drag me out to the limo.
On the way home, we were both more quiet than usual, both of us tired. Half hour away from Miley's house, she fell asleep. Before she slipped off into unconsciousness, I heard her mutter, "Thanks for coming Lils. Means a lot to me. Love you…" Then she yawned, rested her head on my shoulder, and slept.
I looked down at the brunette next to me, putting an arm around her. Then I whispered low to her, knowing she would never be able to hear me, "Love you more. Love you always."
