Kaigo's (OC) POV

One that day, there was nothing but the ferocious flame, engulfing my home, my sanctuary to which I rest upon, it was currently evaporating into the air we all breathe.

On that day, there was nothing but blood being shed, the blood from my family members, one by one they died in front of my eyes, in front of my weak helpless self.

On that day, I gained a malicious lust, that tempted me to act in indescribable ways, in ways that I didn't know were possible.

On that day... I lost everything.

My eyes snapped opened as I jolted up from the grassy ground, I was greeted to multiple sounds birds flapping their wings, disturbed by my abrupt rise.

"N-no don't go..." I mumbled to the birds, I've been alone for what seemed to be forever, surviving in this forest, with nothing but a knife my father gave me.

Your pathetic! A voice boomed in my head. You watched your family die in front of you, and instead of taking your anger on other people, you've developed nothing but shyness, like I mean, you're nothing but a stuttering mess!

A voice like that every now and then would often scowl me like that, I normally dispel it by humming a tune that my mother always used to hum, on average this would compress the voice for about 1 week.

I hummed and stared at the scenery that was bestowed upon my eyes, as the voice relives my pain and disposes of the lust.

Koneko's POV

As I slowly paced down the mountain from where I completed my mission I noticed that my original path had been blocked by newly-found boulders. I shrugged and took a detour towards a forest.

With my hand out covering me as I made my way through very thin twigs, I couldn't help but notice a slight humming "Is their someone their? maybe they know their way 'round this forest," I thought to myself raising my hopes.

As I stumble and weave my way throughout the forest the humming gets louder and louder, with my hopes still raised I shove past a bush covering what seems to be the edge of a cliff, however I can just about make out a body sitting and humming a tune I haven't heard off.

As I emerge from the bush my eyes gaze upon a boy who seems to be around my age. His jet black hair strays down his hazel eyes and his skin is reflected off of the golden rays of the golden sun. He swivels around so he's fully facing me, still sitting, he asks.

"Hey, what brings you here,"

Shocked by his calm response to a stranger approaching him I calmly reply "I heard some humming and thought that maybe the person creating the noise could help me out of this forest"

"Alright then follow me, I know a relatively safe route back to the city," he said as he stood up and started to lead way

Shocked, again, not only by his response to a total stranger, but his body in general. Despite his small gut he must weigh more than others his age due to his size of his arms and legs, did they grow like that naturally or does he workout a lot? Nah that couldn't be the case because if he were to strain his muscles that much then he wouldn't be as tall as he was now.

Now that I think about it he'll make good rook.

"You coming?" he said with a blank expression

"Yep just a moment,"

I pleaded for him to wait so I can fully take in the majestic view that he (and technically I) stumbled upon.

The sun was half hidden behind some hills that caused the trees, buildings and animals to have a coat of gold as well as a silhouette, the sky was dotted with pink and orange clouds making it look like something from a dream.

Once I finish absorbing every last detail I turned and followed the boy.

We step-over, duck under and manoeuvre our way through many logs, after about 5 minutes of walking I catch the golden coated city, ahh I can never can enough of the landscape, however I was soon snapped out of my trance as the boy asks me a question.

"So, what brings you here,"

"Didn't you already ask me that?" I replied with my usually monotone voice.

"Yeah but you avoided the question," he calmly says.

I think to myself for a moment then reply "I was just out here on an errand," There's no way I can tell him that I was out on devil duty.

As we continue walking I noticed he had a red and black switchblade attached to his pocket. I deduce that he either uses it for self-defence or combat. I then decided to shoot the same question he asked me.

"So, what brings you here" I flatly said, he chuckles a little and replies

"I was just admiring the view that you seemed to like so much," he says rather quickly.

5 more minutes later I caught onto another detail that yet again, shocked me. His clothes were tattered and he bruises all over his arms. I wanted to get an answer as to why his condition was this critical so I asked.

"How often do you come here?"

"Why do you wanna know?" he snapped back,

" 'cause your clothes are tattered and you have multiple bruises," I said with a slight note of care in my voice.

"Well I don't just come here, I stay here," he said with a slightly sad tone.

"WHAT!" I exclaimed "then in that case how long for and how do you feed yourself?"

"Wow slow down" he said with a quite shocked expression "well first of all I hunt down wild animals and fishes for food and use my knife to carve out some shelters and I've been here for… ummm let's see… ah 3 years now" he finished with a rather positive attitude.

Three years! All by himself in this harsh environment. Wait a second, that's just about how long I was abandoned for!

For the rest of the journey down the mountain we didn't ask any more questions or converse in any more conversations, however once we reached the city I asked one more question.

"So, who am I thanking?" I said

"Oh I'm Kaigo," he quickly replies "and you?"

"Koneko," I say with a smile

"Well I'm off then, see ya later Koneko" he said while waving and walking away

As soon as those words were spoken it hurt me, not only because I didn't want him to suffer like I did any longer ,but because of something else that I couldn't describe, so without thinking I reluctantly said.

"WAIT!"

Kaigo turned and blankly said "What?" while his hair gently swayed in the wind.

"Since you helped me down the mountain and since you don't have anywhere to go to I was thinking that maybe you can move into my place with my friends" I said flatly, but slowly gaining a tinge of red.

"A-are you sure like I mean a-all I did was take you down the mountain" Kaigo stuttered clearly flushing red as well

"Sure" I cheerfully said while quickly turning around and making my way back to Issei's place, leaving him with little time to decide.

"Alright then," he quickly replied and caught up to me.

Kaigo's POV

I can't believe that I got invited to move into Koneko's house just for guiding her down through a forest and down a mountain. Oh well I guess kindness never takes a day of. Well I guess this means I can start planning my revenge on the Gremory's for killing my family.

As we walk upon a street I notice a massive castle and decide to joke.

"Please tell me you and your friends live in that castle" I said with a cheerful expression

"Yep good guess" Koneko says unfazed by my claim.

"WAIT SERIOUSLY!" I exclaimed

"Yeah, just make yourself at home" she suggested

"Thanks again Koneko" I said with a smile

"Your welcome" she replied.

As we enter through the massive iron gates and make our way down to the doors I prepare myself just in case I get questioned.

The door opened.

A flash of crimson hair and cheerful 'welcome home' made my veins pop and my eyes widen.

I've found you… Rias Gremory.

So that concludes my first chapter of my first fanfic. Hope you all enjoyed!
