Chapter One – The First Day
Claire's Point Of View
I, Claire Belle Mowery, walked into my high school, Landon School For The Arts, with confidence. I pulled my long, blond, hair into a high ponytail and walked in the direction of my locker. I was just beginning to turn my combination lock when I saw Jonathan approaching in the mirror on my locker door. He had his signature goofy grin on his face, and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. When he finally reached me, he gave me the biggest hug. What a great start to my Junior year, one of my best friends is the first person I see! Jonathan grabs his books out of his locker, which is right next to mine. Just as we turn to head to the courtyard, my other best friend, April Green, and her boyfriend, Connor Ritz, walk up to greet us. April looks extremely tired and has bags under her eyes. Before I can ask if she's ok, she says "I can't believe I stayed up until three a.m. watching Joey Graceffa videos!", and I giggle because I did the same. Jonathan gave me a nervous look as we walked to the crowded courtyard. "Okay, Claire", I say to reassure myself, "this is going to be the best year ever."

Joey's Point Of View
I had almost no time to get ready this morning. I even forgot to put on my snapback. I look in the mirror to see that my hair looks like a forest. "Oh well," I think to myself. I race out of my house that I share with Meghan and David, slamming the door behind me. They were on a trip to Whole Foods to get this boy some chicken, so they wouldn't notice my absence. It is just beginning to cool down here in Los Angeles. After all, it is the first of October and the leaves are starting to change colors. I hopped into my car and backed out of the driveway. An hour and one kale smoothie later, I arrived at The Department.
