"I almost wish my heart was breaking, but I can't lie. All I want to do is turn the page." Rascal Flats – I Feel Bad
Tuesday.
It was quickly becoming her least favorite day of the week. Chase would reminder her that he liked her (as if she could really forget) and she would wish that she was anywhere else. Or mostly, that he was someone else.
She couldn't lie to herself. She didn't care about him; not the way he wanted her to, at least. She didn't even feel bad about rejecting him. She couldn't live that lie too.
Chase would just look at her with those puppy-dog eyes, determined to break down her walls.
God, was this what House though of her? The thought was horrifying. She couldn't be this bad, could she? She decided to avoid House more. The last thing she wanted him to do was to compare her to Chase. What she wanted (hoped for) was so much more than just Tuesdays; she wanted the rest of the week too.
But, Chase was going to wait until she was ready. He was going to keep asking her; he was going to keep ruining her Tuesdays. She couldn't believe that someone thought she was worth it. Now if only it was the right someone.
She couldn't believe Chase had turned what should have been a string of one-night-stands into what sounded like a let's-grow-old-together relationship. She should want it, she really should. But she didn't. And she didn't even feel bad about it.
But then he would remind her again, as if she had early onset Alzheimer's and had forgotten him in the past week.
Tuesday.
It was quickly becoming her least favorite day of the week. Tuesday was the day she was reminded of how incredible stupid she was.
Why couldn't she just love him?
She knew she should; it made perfect sense. Robert Chase was the right choice. He was everything she should want, had always wanted. He wasn't the one with intimacy issues. He didn't belittle her feelings and invade her privacy. He made her feel wanted.
Why couldn't she want him in return?
She only, sort-of knew the answer. Despite his punching the shark story, Robert Chase just didn't do if for her. He had taken her to dinner, and she realized over the Crème Brûlée they split, how truly boring 'perfect' really was.
She longed for something more. She longed for him to be a little scruffier, a little snarkier, a little less perfect. Anything at this point. The whole thing was getting away from her and she didn't know how to tell him that he wasn't the one.
He wasn't the one who pushed her into being a better doctor. He wasn't the one who could thrill her with a wild grin, or make her tremble with a simple touch.
Chase didn't make her want him back.
She wanted more. It couldn't be helped, or denied.
She just did.
And she deserved more than Tuesdays, didn't she?
