A/N:This is short Simon/Kaylee fluff. Because who doesn't love Simon/Kaylee and Firefly? Set after Objects in Space. Feel free to add a random Chinese word or phrase every three sentences. This fluff is told in Kaylee's point of view; also feel free to make her sound less proper in your head as you read.

If I owned Firefly, would I be sitting here writing fluff instead of doing everything in my will to get it back on air?

"I told you so!" River said happily.

"Ok, ok, you won," I admitted.

I looked at River, who was triumphantly waving a hand full of jacks. I smiled at her glee, but sobered almost instantly.

I was still feeling guilty at telling that horrible bounty hunter were she slept. If only I could have been clever like the captain and found a way out of it. I could have avoided this whole mess. I could still hear his voice; hear my own whisper, 'There's nobody can help me.'

"Wasn't your fault," River said.

"What?"

"You think it was your fault that Early was able to get as far as he did, and that Simon got shot, but it isn't."

There was quiet for awhile. Zoe walked by us.

"Simon is going to be fine," she reassured us, "River, he's been asking for you,"

As River got up to go I felt a strong pang of jealousy, and then hated myself for feeling it. She's his sister, I reminded myself. It still hurt.

Soon, when Simon was better enough to walk, I went to go visit him. I hadn't seen him in awhile and I didn't want him to think I was ignoring him. Again.

"Kaylee," he said warmly, when I found him on a couch by the infirmary.

"Hi Simon," I said, sitting next to him. When he smiled it sent a jolt in my stomach.

Somehow, we had gotten to the subject of Early. I tried to remember how we got there as I listened to Simon talking.

"And he just fell from the ceiling. He told me I had to help him find River. There was no way I was going to betray her. Not even my life was worth it. Then he threatened to kill me and go 'violate' you. That made my decision for me, I had to help him. Out of all the things to threaten me with, he picked the one of the only things that would work, the other being River."

Wait. What did he mean by that? Was it his manners that made it so that he did not want me to be 'violated'? Did he think I was the weakest one, the one who could not get herself out of the situation? Did he not want his friend to get hurt? Or was it something else? My head was spinning from all of the different possibilities.

"Me?" I said, sounding confused to my own self.

"Kaylee," he started, hesitating. Here he goes. Going all stiff, again.

"Kaylee," he said again, "I'm afraid of messing up, of saying the wrong thing, like I always do. I don't want to get you upset. The other night, I started something, and I'm afraid I didn't finish it. It is really important that I do."

He was leaving? What did he have to do? It sounded at first like he was actually almost getting…somewhere.

But he wasn't getting up. It looked like he was getting closer. We were both leaning subconsciously towards each other. Then, as his lips met mine, I understood. All questions were answered, and then forgotten.

Mwuahahahaha... Like it? Love it? Review pretty please with strawberries on top!
