A sliver-furred she-cat watched the sunset go down as the fading glow of the sun reflected off the land. A cat's yowl of pain was heard and she quickly ran to where a crowd of cats were gathering.

She pushed though the crowd of cats to reach the leader's den that they had surrounded. Inside she saw two cats, one she knew as her father.

The dark gray tom that stood next to her father looked at her. "I'm afraid there is nothing more I can do, Sliversong. Your father is too sick for me to heal him, he will join StarClan soon," he meowed with grief.

"I don't blame you that you could not heal him, Stormwind, I just wished there was more time for us to spend time together," she replied as she stepped past him to where his father lay.

"Is that you, Sliversong?" her father voice coughed with sickness. "Yes father, I have to come to say I'm sorry," she meowed.

"What for?" he asked and then coughed again. Sliversong looked up at the tiny hole in ceiling of the den. "That we never got to watch the sun go down together," she replied.

Her father gave her a grin that she rarely go see. "Ah, but that is not the most important to me, it's you," he meowed and the coughed again.

Sliversong looked at her father confused. "But I thought you never cared for me, I only obeyed you because you were the leader of our Clan," she protested.

The sick, old leader shook his head. "I will always love you and I will always be with you, even when I join StarClan". If I wanted a good deputy to lead our clan to its future, I would want my daughter to lead them," he meowed as his voice began to get weaker.

Grief filled in Sliversong's eyes, but joy as well. "I won't let you down, I will make sure our clan survives," she replied.

Her father's grin grew larger and his chest puffed out with pride with his remaining breath. "I will always be with you, don't forget that…" he softly meowed and then closed his eyes. He breathed one last breath and then became as silent as the night.

Grief filled her heart of her father's death, but she knew she had to do what her father wanted to do. "Stormwind," she called for the medicine cat.

Stormwind quickly came inside and bowed his head in respect. "Are you ready? To do what must be done?" he asked.

Sliversong nodded. "I will do what I must if the clan is going to survive".
