Darker than Black, Brighter than White
I open my eyes and tilt my head. The vision of the bed sheets, white, under my relaxed hand, greets me vaguely. Contrasting with my naked body onto them. The walls are painted in that immaculate color as well, and the curtains are flapping, just as if the summertime breeze that floods through the window bothers them in the drowsiness of the early afternoon. I feel how, under my head, something whispers; something is moving, something that feeds me and fills me with energy, something that, if it wasn't there, it would deprive me of living. I close my eyes now as I change my position on the mattress, feeling your strong chest muscles against my face. How didn't I realise earlier, I think, my mind still blurry. ¿How in the world can I have been so silly as to have last the disgraceful quantity of 6 seconds in realising that what is whispering in my ear is your heart?
I caress your hair. It has already grown up a lot. Black, jet black, wild, widespread all across the pillow. Everything is white, everything is light. And you, and me, beating in rhythm with the summer world that spies us through the window and envies us, thirsty of a love like ours, drown into its own agonyI can't fight it; I don't want to wake you up, but my admiration is now stronger than my willpower, and it defeats me, forcing me to trace your jaw line in silence with the tip of one index finger. It slips over the golden skin of your neck, it marks the prominent Adam's apple of your throat, it changes direction to take in the wide extension of your left shoulder. By the effect of my finger or because of my sigh, I don't know at all, but you open your eyes, and if what I was seeing later was light, what surrounds me now is so luminous, so warm, so, breathtaking that defies summer itself and almost suppresses everything in this same room.
There has been a long time since we got stuck together, but it doesn't cease to amaze me how, when you smile at me, it seems the first time I see your smile. I find it curious to feel that now typical shiver being sent down my spine. The calm light of your almost liquid blue-green eyes trembles, disturbed, ever-so-slightly, in your tanned face, surrounded by darker than black hair, and I perceive between flashes of happiness your deep voice asking me if I am cold.
I try to suppress laughter. I love, therefore I exist. No one will be able to find the way of being cold when being at your side, and I slowly shake my head while you make a frown and slip your strong arm across my back.
You are still like at the beginning. Fifteen year-old teenager's soul, vitality-overflowing man's body, and a genius' mind that, despite being able to illuminate mysteries hasn't realised of my feelings yet.
I kiss your naked skin; I seal a mute I love you in your chest before closing my eyes and fall again into slumber.
Meanwhile, surrounding me, the darkest light I have ever seen mingles calmly with white.
