Some people think about how perfect Maltara is, but what if it wasn't? What if it isn't? What if too much has happened between them, and staying apart is for the best? In this one shot I'll pick at the horrible truth between some relationships. Be warned. Inspired by "The Diary Of Jane" by 'Breaking Benjamin'. I highly suggest listening to it.

The Truth

He knew it was a mistake. It had been a month since he had confessed his feelings to her. One month since he felt like a complete idiot, one month since she had accepted it. She said she felt the same things back, although upon reflection he thought it may have been for pressure. Now everything had changed, and not for the better. Sometimes she was happy, a normal person you would love. How a normal person would act when they were in love. She was not a normal person. Looking back, he realized why.

"Every time she sees you…this is what she'll see. I win".

He had failed, he had let him win. Now he could see it in her eyes. As if they were a mirror to the past, they showed him killing Shawn. That she had fallen in love with the man who killed someone who loved her. He could see it sometimes when she looked at him. A pained expression, as if he himself had come out of her very nightmares. When she saw he had noticed, she plastered on a fake smile. She was not truly happy, but cared for him enough to want him to be. This wasn't fair to her, and he wished very much he could go back. He regretted telling her, she had been at least content. He wished he could go back in time, so she could stay that way. So the pain was relived from her eyes, so her memory didn't relapse to what he had done. So she didn't think of anyone else when he kissed her, didn't remember a man covered in blood falling off a roof into freezing water when she looked at him. In confessing his own feelings he had been selfish, he had burdened her further. Given her life even more unwanted twists and turns. But he couldn't go back, he couldn't stop. He had hurt her, and all he could hope for now was to ease her pain as time went by, as they moved forward. Maybe then it would stop, the the hurt would fade from her eyes. For now though, it always reared it's ugly head. The terrible truth.

Just saying, I am a Maltara supporter, just so you don't think otherwise. I just don't think it did happen, it won't be as 'perfect' as a lot of people think, at least at first. Disclaimer, I don't own Cause of Death.
