Hi Everyone. I'm new to this site and really looking forward to writing fan fictions for you guys. I'm typically a fan of anime such as Fruits Basket and Vampire Knight. This is only the Prologue of a Vampire Knight fan fiction I am currently writing. I do not own Vampire Knight. The only character I own is Hikari and possibly other characters that will appear in future chapters. Sorry this one is so short. I promise there will be more to come. Please feel free to review what you think and possibly give me a few pointers if something doesn't seem right. I only ask that you don't write hateful things about my stories please. Now I will shut my trap so you can read.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Three Years Ago

"Thank you for shopping with me, Zero," Yuki Cross said as they both walked down the cobblestone streets.

"No problem," Zero said in a monotone voice. This was his first time actually going outside of the Chairman's house since the incident that occurred last year. He had lost his family because of a pure-blooded vampire that still haunted his nightmares. Zero still remembered what she looked like. White hair, light pink eyes, and was wearing a white kimono. Who knew something so pretty could be so deadly?

Zero was scared to get close to anyone, especially Yuuki, at first. He remembered the moment he saw how happy she was when that stupid pure-blood came through the door. He didn't want her to touch him with those contaminated hands. But now he was slowly getting closer to Yuki.

He looked over at the cheery brunette next to him. "So, what am I supposed to-"

Zero was cut off by a loud, high-pitched scream that came from the abandoned church six blocks away. Yuki must not have heard it because she called out for Zero when he started running towards the source.

His Bloody Rose gun was tucked in his pocket, covered by his shirt. He heard Yuki's footsteps behind him, along with her shouts for him to stop. He wouldn't though. He had sensed a vampire in the area and knew it was the Level E.

Now running up the church stairs, he reached into his pocket for his gun. He quickly checked to see if there was ammunition in it and ran into the church tower.

There was a girl about his age with shoulder length brown hair and ice blue eyes. She was cornered by a Level E, who was about to kill her. Zero acted fast and shot the Level E in the back. The vampire fell to the ground, leaving a very frightened girl looking at Zero. She was holding her hand close to her chest and had scratches on her face.

Noticing this, Zero was very tempted to bite her. Her blood scent was very strong and sweet. But he couldn't do that. He walked over to the girl, suppressing his hunger.

The girl was on the verge of tears but looked at Zero like he was a hero. She wrapped her arms around him and cried into his chest.

At first, Zero didn't know what to do. But then, slowly, he wrapped his arms around her, telling her that she was going to be okay.

He heard Yuki enter the room and felt her stare at the girl in Zero's arms. "We should take her to our house, Zero. Do you have any parents?" Yuki asked.

The girl only looked at Zero, as if waiting for him to say something. Since she wasn't answering Yuki, Zero asked her.

"No," she said in a whisper. The girl tightly hung on to Zero's shirt and looked at the floor.

Zero carefully picked up the girl in his arms and carried her bridal style. "What's your name?" he asked.

"Hikari."
