AN: Yikes! My very first fic and I am very disappointed in it! When I thought of writing a fic I never thought Ginarrbrik, of all people, would be my subject matter. ::sighs:: ah well, I hope that you lovely reviewers (if I get any) won't be too hard on me. Hopefully my next story will be better (and longer)! My apologies for the short length.
Also, this is Movieverse. In fact, the majority of the conversation is from the movie. I am so unoriginal at the moment. :(
Ice. Whoosh. Ice.
Ice stung Ginarrbrik's leathered cheek as he swung a long, cruel whip. How long had they been riding? The reindeers he so viciously whipped were nearly dead with exhaustion, the temperature was rapidly dropping, and his own thick beard did little to keep off the chill.
Casting a sly glance over his shoulder, his spirits dropped even further. Queen Jadis, her whole body covered in a warm, thick robe, looked perfectly comfortable. She returned his gaze, unwavering.
" What is it, Ginarrbrik?" she asked coldly, her hand tightening subconsciously around the long, thin object she cradled in her lap.
" Nothing, Majesty," Ginarrbrik answered unhappily, raising his whip once more.
The blow never fell.
A small, dark-haired creature caught his gaze. Even as he watched, the thing (whatever it was), caught off guard by the swift-moving sleigh, lost its balance and fell clumsily into a snow bank. Rising in his seat and pulling hard on the reins, Ginarrbrik brought the reindeers to a faltering stop. He leapt from the sleigh, whip in one hand and knife in the other.
Sting.
Edmund fell to the ground, the thong of the whip catching at his feet. The next moment he felt a heaviness on his chest and a cold, sharp object grazing his throat.
"Let me alone!" he cried, his eyes widening in terror. A sweet, languid voice echoed from the sleigh.
" What is it now, Ginarrbrik?"
" Make him let me go! I didn't do anything wrong!" Edmund cried again, struggling against the cold steel at his throat. Ginarrbrik only pressed harder.
" How dare you address the Queen of Narnia," he hissed.
" I didn't know!" Edmund said, frustrated.
" You will know her better hereafter!" Ginarrbrik raised the knife, glee rising in his evil heart as he beheld the look of cold terror leap into Edmund's dark eyes.
" Wait!" Imperious, low, the Queen made her presence known as she issued the brief command.
Ginarrbrik, slightly disappointed, lowered his knife and allowed Edmund to stand. He couldn't believe his eyes when the Queen, after exchanging a few words with the creature, allowed it to sit beside her in the sleigh. She fed it, and cooed over it, and promised it grandeur. Ginarrbrik, his own eyes now the size of dinner plates, felt the first signs of envy stirring in his heart.
She had called him a son of Adam. A son of Adam. Now what did that mean? He turned it over in his mind as the boy (strange word), ate his fill. Finally the answer dawned on him. Of course! The prophecy! Smirking in triumph, Ginarrbrik eyed the boy with new interest. Knowing his Queen, this prophecy would never be fulfilled.
