Disclaimer: I don't own Vocaloid.
So I did this for a song challenge: do a fanfic for every Vocaloid song I've listened to. Honestly, Sigh was rather difficult because the song lays the whole story out rather thoroughly... so you'll find that this story just fills in the gaps, really. *Sighs*
This is pointless, isn't it?
Rin stared at the pitch black sky and sighed. She didn't know why she did that. She was always doing it, and it needed to stop. No matter when it was or what was happening, she was sighing. She supposed it meant she was depressed. But why…?
It was really bothering her now. No one should be this sad for no reason. Tears fell from her face for no reason. Her heart constantly ached with grief. Then one day, something extraordinary happened to her. A boy with wings descended from the pitch black sky to greet her. He was an angel.
"Give me your sighs," he said with a smile, "because I will replace them with happiness." He had blond hair similar to hers, tied back in a small, low ponytail. He had the same blue eyes, too. He reminded her of… someone. And before she could even think, the words spilled out of her mouth. "Please."
He did as he promised. First, a beautiful garden of flowers, then a teddy bear, and then a blue bird. Tiny, simple things that made her smile. She had forgotten how important those tiny, happy things were. And soon, she stopped sighing.
But something about her smiles and his appearance and her memories were linked. She remembered that there was something about a hospital, a room, a person. And then the full story hit her, and the world crumbled. A childhood memory, that's all it was.
A boy with blond hair, just like the angel's, and just like mine, lay on the hospital bed. He wouldn't wake up, I realized. His cold hand, I…held onto it tightly, and breathed out. He was going far away and, so that he wouldn't be lonely, I desperately tried to warm him up. Desperately, I breathed out.
The angel then said, "You remembered, huh?
"They were yours, weren't they? The 'sighs.' You were trying to warm me up – a gentle, gentle wind.
"Sorry for being late. Finally, I could come and return the favor. No more sighing now. Come on, raise your head."
When Rin finally came to her senses, the angel was gone, replaced with the first blue sky she had seen in ages. Fluffy white clouds, like the angel's wings, floated across the sky, and the sun was soft and warm, like the angel's arms.
Rin wiped her tears and smiled.
Rin visited his grave that day. She smiled sadly, and almost felt the angel's presence again. She wasn't going to sigh anymore. She was happy, like her brother in heaven.
It's rather short, but I thought that trying to make it longer would ruin the potency of the piece. The song was rather bittersweet, and the conciseness only strengthened it, so I tried to mimic that. Hope it did everything I thought it would.
