Breathe me

Timeline: Set in "the" ten minutes at the end of 'They Keep Killing Susie'.

Note: Written with the inspiration of Gorecki by Lamb, the song they play at the end of this episode and my favourite song ever… Title borrowed from a Sia song.

Disclaimer: Borrowed the characters, the situations, the locations from the BBC. But the words are mine and I give them to you my lovely readers. And Jack's smile, well that is his very own.

I hold my breath, watching you walk away. Hold it and think of your hands, your arms, your smile. Ten minutes, tick, tick goes my clock. I hold my breath and think of you. I searched for you when I didn't know you, searched for your smile, searched for your breath in mine. The clock ticks, nine, eight.

Things to do as the seconds tick by, wash death off my hands and lock all the doors. Click, click go the locks, tick, tick goes the clocks.

I hold my breath when I think of you. Your smile.

I didn't want this. It wasn't your face I wanted to see when I opened my door bruised and broken. Click, click go the locks.

I should have known better than to try to stop you when you want something. Better than to hold my hands to the sea to try to hold back a tidal wave. No choice but to let you break over me, wash over me, and hold on, hold on, tight, tight, hands clenched, breath held. Save me.

You watched me in my darkest moments, caused them and created them, then came by to pick up the pieces. Did you know the metal men? Have you met the pepper pot man?

I asked you once when I couldn't sleep, and your face pinched and you said nothing. Have you met the pepper pot man, what did he take from you?

But those men float in nothingness, taken and trapped. There's safety here. Hands clenched tight, release, blood returns to whitened knuckles. I don't want to hold on anymore.

The moments move, tick, tick goes the clock, flick, flick go its hands, bringing me to you. Step, step along the metal path, open the door and see - your smile.

I breathe.
