Years ago, Neville Longbottom attended Hogwarts School of witchcraft and wizardry. No one had taken him seriously at all, everyone thought he was daft, and clumsy, no one thought he had a backbone, they all thought he was someone to be walked over. Until he met Luna, she had brought him out of his shell, made him into a better person, Luna had been Neville's first love, his first kiss, his first girlfriend, and his first time. And what had Neville done to repay her for all of her kindness? All her compassion? He had thrown everything back into her fade. He had become one of those popular boys now, everyone wanted to know him, everyone wanted to be his friend, all of a sudden girls thought Neville was attractive and wanted to be with him. Neville, unfortunately at the time had succumbed to the pressure, he had moved on from Luna, to try other girls, effectively breaking Luna's heart. Neville was currently dating Cho Chang, it figured, that girl only wanted the celebrity status, first Cedric, then Harry, for a little while she even tried Hermione! Now, she had moved onto Neville, he didn't mind though. Well, at first anyway, now Neville new something was wrong. He did not feel complete. Neville knew he was missing something. He just had no idea what.

With a sigh he ran his hands through his brown coloured hair, he was currently working with St. Mungos, to help develop new medicines and hopefully find cures to new curses and diseases which had risen since the war, it was fairly hard work, but Neville being a natural with plants found at least one part easy enough, it was just up to his co-worker, a boy from Durmstrang by the name of Finley to make the potions. Neville had not improved much in this area He had been thinking about his relationship conundrum for the last few days, Cho was becoming more and more needy, always needing the latest clothes, the newest trends, the newest haircut, the best make-up. It was costing Neville a fortune, he knew Cho was not the girl for him, it was just a matter of finding the right girl, and the right way to leave Cho. It would not be easy, but Neville knew he could never be truly happy with the girl.

Thinking through the girls he knew, Luna Lovegood was not really an option, she practically refused to talk to him since he began dating Cho, and it was very rare Luna would even say hi to him these days. Hannah Abott was a fairly nice girl, being in a separate house to Neville she did not know most of the embarrassing stories and situations Neville had been in, definitely a big plus in his books, but she wasn't particularly interested in anything besides her romance novels. Ginny Weasley was still flaunting her way around Harry, though he showed little interest in her, Neville could not be with a woman who would chase after a guy like that, giving herself so willingly for nothing. Lavender Brown, had always been kind to him, though she was a bit of a tart, she had been with nearly every guy in their year, and the year above them in school. Neville did not want to be with a girl who could easily be used in a metaphor with a town bicycle. Everyone got a ride one point in their life.

Honestly, it didn't matter how many girls Neville though about, he knew deep down there was only one woman for him. Luna. She was beautiful, and kind, she had been with him long before he was famous, she was his friend because of his personality, not because of his fame or his accomplishments. He only wished he had realised this sooner. Luna was now working as a healer, nearby his workplace. Cho didn't work, she was always worried about ruining her manicures, she wasn't fussed about helping people, she was not the same kind, gentle soul the Luna was. She could not deal with having anything second rate. Another reason Neville liked Luna, he was not materialistic, nor was Luna. Luna was perfect, in almost every way, and Neville swore to make her his.

His first plan of action, rid himself of Cho. Not being very experienced in this situation he probably, most definitely did not go about this in the right way. Neville, after some deep thought about who he wanted to end up with, and the sort of life he wanted to lead. He had come straight home from work, walked into the parlour where Cho was reading Witch Weekly, and straight up said "Cho, this is not working, we need to see other people" always so awkward, Neville regretted how he handled it now that he thought back on it. Instead, Neville had gone straight to another room, and begun writing a letter to Luna, expressing his desire to see her again, and to catch up.

Weeks had gone by, Cho had moved out, and Neville was not moving on, Luna had declined every one of his invitations to coffee, lunch, or even after work drinks. It was rather depressing. Finally though, Neville caught a break, though it was not in the form Neville had expected. Cho had come into his office, begging him to take her back. It was only then, that Luna took notice of him again. Luna came to Neville's office "I didn't know you two had separated" Luna said, shuffling about, looking down at her feet "I'm terribly sorry" Luna said more coming closer, sitting on the arm of Neville's chair. Pulling Neville into a tight embrace, Luna said again "Come, let's have a drink".

Together the two went to a small muggle pub, which Luna said was her favourite place, the night started with shots, round after round the two drunk, talking through their sorrows, laughing at old memories and over all just enjoying themselves. It was the perfect beginning to the night, the rest of the night, ended in a darkened blur. The two of them waking quite naked in Neville's apartment, neither remembering much from the night before, neither knowing what had transpired, or how to respond the next day. So they left the situation alone, once again not talking to each other at work, until one day Luna resigned, not a word to Neville, no explanation why, not even a way to contact her. Neville felt alone, though it had only been one night, he always had his hopes that he and Luna would be reunited. His chances were looking dim though, as the months passed by.

It was about a year later that Luna came back, and to Neville's surprise, she had a baby. His baby.
And that, Thomas Longbottom, is how you came to be.
