Life Can be Beautiful – by Darlin

A/N – I woke up this morning and this little one shot popped into my head. Thought to not write it down but it wouldn't go away so an hour and a half later I'm posting it. This is based on the Wolverine and the X-Men comic book which I loved but perhaps many didn't.

Disclaimer – Don't own the characters, make no profit, just had an idea . . .

Logan woke with a start as a warm body slid beneath the covers with him. Ororo, back early from business, was his first thought as he reached for her but the scent wasn't hers and the lips on his weren't hers. He pulled back, reached for the light, sighed deeply as he looked at Idie Okonkwo.

"Idie . . ."

"I've decided I want you to take my virginity," Idie said and gave a little smile.

Logan sighed again. He'd always felt something was broken in Idie. He had a special place in his heart for her. And he still resented Scott for turning Idie further into this broken little girl.

"Idie . . ."

She was kissing him now but he gently removed her arms from around him.

"Idie, this isn't right."

But Idie just lowered her kisses southward.

"No!" Logan groaned, furious with himself and her. "We ain't doin' this, girl. You gotta think straight. Besides, you've got Quire."

"Quentin is dead inside."

"Well, that makes two of us."

"You're different than Quentin. He doesn't know the meaning of love."

"You know, kid, I never knew the meaning of love either. I thought I'd loved a lot of women but the truth of it is that if I'd really loved them I'da left 'em alone 'cause lovin' me was always trouble. Till I met Ororo. Come ta find out all this time she was right in front of me all along. I'd followed her ta death an' back, I respected her that much.

"Took me a while to see that how I saw her, how much I respected her was really more. Took me a while ta know how to love, really love, and trust. I love her. I love Ororo. I could kick myself for wastin' time. I ain't got much time left now but what time I have I'm with Ororo. I love her and she'd be real hurt if you an' me . . ." He shook his head.

"One day Quire will wake up, we saw the future, we know you two end up together. We know he loves you. He's just a little messed up right now, just like I was."

"I kill him, Mr. Logan."

"He has a clue how things end up so that can change, probably will. He said it was always about you."

"I don't know what he meant. He's so full of himself, it always seems to be about him."

"In that moment he told you the truth. He loves you. Hell, he listens to you, Idie! He doesn't listen o anyone else. And that's somethin' more than love, it's respect."

Idie was holding herself, arms crossed over her small body. Logan gently took Ororo's robe from the end of the bed and wrapped it around her.

"I love Storm and I'd never hurt her an' I know you don't want ta hurt her either. Quentin would be hurt too if you . . . you just have to trust me on this. He's a lot like me, just'll take time but, Idie, I think you're the only one he's ever loved aside from his parents who just abandoned him. Kid's got a lot of trust issues. Give him time."

"But Storm doesn't have to find out."

"No, she doesn't but I'd never forgive myself fer cheatin' on her or for taking something from you that only a man who loves you and wants to spend his life with you has the right to take."

"So you don't want me."

"No. Ororo's who I want. I want you to go back to your room. Don't be in such a hurry to start living. Don't beat up on yourself because you think you're a killer with no remorse, no heart, no love in you, Idie, that God has turned His back on you because He hasn't, not you. And I want you to think about the people who do love you – Hope, Broo, Quire, Ororo, me. We only want the best for you and I think you know this – I'd never hurt you."

"I'm sorry I guess. I didn't think."

"That's just it, girl, we do too many things without thinkin'. You're a good kid, beautiful, sweet, don't sell yourself short. You had a lot of faith in God but all the things you went through – just know that God's still there for you an' I'm here for you just like Ororo an' even Quire an' everyone here."

"But how can God still love me if I'm a killer an' I'm a whore now?"

Logan chuckled slowly, drew the girl to him and held her a moment. "You're no whore, darlin'. An' from what Kurt tells me God loves all us sinners equally, got no favorites an' he doesn't stop lovin' you if you make a mistake, not if you still trust an' believe in him. You just need ta trust again. You an' Quire both. An' I know how hard that is. Takes a lot of time, but you got all the time in the world. Life can be beautiful for you, girl if you just give it time an' keep trustin' in all you believe in."

Idie slowly climbed out of bed. She looked at him a moment, tears in her eyes.

"It's alright, Idie, no one has to know about this, we won't ever mention it."

She nodded, mumbled a thank you.

"Just give Quire a little more time. When it's right you'll both know."

She nodded again and tripped out of the room.

"Damn, woman, when're ya comin' home!" Logan groaned as he laid back down and looked at a picture of him and Ororo on the nightstand before he turned the light off. Ororo would be back in the morning but he'd never missed her more. He'd never wanted to kill Scott more either.

But Idie, back under her own covers, thought about what she'd done, what Logan had said, and knowing he was right she smiled through her tears. Maybe she wasn't as evil and ruined as she thought. Maybe God would forgive her, maybe He'd even put her on the right track again if she would only trust Him again and wait like Logan had said. Maybe, despite all the craziness of life at the school, and her and Quentin's lack of trust issues, maybe life would really be beautiful again. One day.

And when Logan started again as a warm body slipped under the covers with him early the next morning he moaned in gratitude. Ororo's kisses were like heaven, a place he knew he wasn't meant for. And her love making made him want to make her his forever, to marry her and settle down, but he knew his time was short, that wasn't the life he was meant for. She refused to believe that but he knew she had to know. All he could do for her was to make their time together as beautiful as she deserved.

A/N - I happen to be fascinated by Idie's character, how she doubts her faith and gave into the dark side so to speak. I also am intrigued with her relationship with Quentin Quire who also fascinates me. But of course RoLo is all consuming.
