Following the events on Mt. Quena, Mewtwo began traveling the world. He was not alone, however, as Pikatwo and Meowtwo refused to leave his side, even at the promise of a better life along with their own species.

"Nya na na nya na?" Meowtwo asked Mewtwo.

Mewtwo glanced at his fellow clone. "What I am thinking about?" He got a nod in response. "That human, Ash Ketchum."

Pikatwo decided to join the discussion. "Pika pikapi?"

"Yes." Mewtwo responded. "He's helped me twice, both times at the risk of his own life. At New Island, he jumped in between me and Mew, despite seeing just how powerful we were. Did he know about the risks, but continued anyway? Or did the thought of his own demise never strike him? And at Mount Quena, opposing Giovanni would surely lead him to his death, had the situation ended differently. What if the machines hadn't broken? What if the waters hadn't healed me? You'd think he was suicidal, the way he risks his own life to help others..."

"Chu pikachu pikapi!" Pikatwo said angrily.

"I did not imply I was ungrateful! Merely... Perplexed. I have witnessed the actions of so many humans, and had it not been for Ash, I would've deemed the human race unfit to exist. They're so selfish and arrogant, never hesitating to lie, hurt or kill to ensure their own welfare. But Ash... Ash is the exact opposite. I can't help but wonder how the world would've been if there were more like him.

Meowtwo tilted his head in confusion. "Na nya nya na nya?"

"I am aware that there might be humans similar to Ash out there, just that we haven't found any. But they're outnumbered... Perhaps a billion to one..."

"Pika chu pikapi pichu!" Pikatwo yelled this time.

"Perhaps I was a bit pessimistic about that number... Regardless, the main reason I thought about him is because of his selflessness."

"Pika?/Nya?" The two clones asked in unison.

"Thus far he's survived, perhaps through sheer luck, or divine intervention. But someday his luck will run out. As such, I've come to a decision.

Pikatwo and Meowtwo looked at him in wonder. Pikatwo had an idea as to what Mewtwo was implying.

Meanwhile, in the Ketchum residence.

Ash was sound asleep, partying the entire day as they celebrated him getting to top 8 in the Silver Conference. Sure, 'only' getting to top 8 when he dreamed of becoming the best in the world may seem laughable, but it was a leap forward compared to his placement in the Indigo Plateau Conference, where he only got to top 16.

"Ash, wake up."

Having suddenly woken up, Ash looked around in his room trying to find who or what was the cause of the disturbance. Quickly dismissing it as his imagination, he went back to sleep.

"Ash, wake up!"

Now Ash were sure he heard something. Well, not really 'heard'. Rather, it was like a thought, but it wasn't his own.

"I know it's late and for that I apologize, but I didn't want to draw unnecessary attention. Please, just come outside for a moment."

Ash let out a yawn as he obeyed. He was happy to be visited by a friend, but he certainly wished Mewtwo could've chosen a more appropriate time.

As he went out, he realized he only wore his pajamas, and the night was a bit chilly...

"My apologies for making you come out in the cold like this, but I had something I'd like to ask you."

Finally, Ash could see his friend Mewtwo. He had half expected to never see him again, yet here he was.

"What can I do for you, Mewtwo?" Ash asked. Surely, Mewtwo had a good reason for waking him in the middle of the night. He didn't seem like one for jokes.

"After our previous meeting, I realized just how big of an impact you've had on my life. Hadn't it been for you, I may've still thought I did not belong in this world." Mewtwo began. "However, I've also realized just how far you're willing to go to help others. I believe that one day, your selflessness will result in your undoing."

"Mewtwo, I-" Ash tried to answer, but Mewtwo held up his hand to silence him.

"Knowing you, you would risk yourself to help others even if I asked you not to, I am aware of that. No, I came here for another reason."

"And what would that be?"

Mewtwo used his psychic powers to make a pokeball float from inside the house to his hand. "To ensure your safety, I wish to join you."

"J-join me?" Ash asked, any hint of weariness gone.

"If my presence is undesired-" Mewtwo was interrupted by Ash before he could finish.

"No! No, I do not undes... I do not have any problem with you being here! It's just so... Unexpected, you know? The fact that you're willing to be caught by a human, after all you've been through..."

"Had it been anyone else, I wouldn't even have considered it. But if it's you..." He said as he placed the empty pokeball in Ash' hand. "Then it's another story. I believe you can teach me a lot. And at the same time, I can help you train your other pokemon, so that you will one day fulfill your dream of becoming a Pokemon Master."

Ash looked down at the pokeball in his hand. "The thought of having you around, helping me achive my dream, it fills me with happiness. But I will not throw the pokeball at you."

"Why?"

"The ultimate decision is yours." He said as he held out the pokeball, pointing at Mewtwo. "If you truly wish to join me, press the button."

"So be it." Mewtwo said, and without hesitation he pressed the button, and got sucked into the pokeball. The pokeball immediately dinged, signaling a capture without resistance. Ash quickly let him out. "Also, before you go to sleep, I have another matter at hand." Mewtwo gestured to the nearby bushes, and out jumped Pikatwo and Meowtwo. "If you decided to accept me, they, too, wanted to join you. Is that alright?"

"Of course it is Mewtwo." Ash said with a smile. "But now..." Ash yawned. "I really want to sleep. In a few days I'm going on my next journey in Hoenn. Good night."

"Good night, Ash."

With that, Mewtwo had officially joined Ash's team, and who knows? Mewtwo's assistance may be just what Ash need to fulfill his dream of becoming a Pokemon Master.

For some reason, Fanfiction would not allow me to write "Mt. Quena" while in italic, So I wrote it as a whole instead.
