Hi everyone. So the Mentalist has now ended, with a fantastic series finale to treasure forever but I am finding my self needing to feel TM void still, so I thought I would give this ff story writing another go, helping creating my post S7 TM world.

There are so many great post S7 ff stories currently being posted so I thought I would write a story after the happily ever after and what life between our beloved newly married duo and the new baby is like, along with all the up and downs a new baby can bring. ;)

Please leave reviews, it's always nice to hear your views . All spelling and mistakes are my own and I thank you for taking the time read my story.

Disclaimer: I do not own the Memtalist. (If I did I would give us 16 more seasons to come.)

Chapter 1: New beginnings

Cho was sitting in his office studying the crime scene photos once again, he let out a huff of frustration, quickly glancing up to make sure no-one had heard him. He couldn't be seen to be losing his cool, especially with this latest murder case.

It had been 10 months since Abbott had departed the Austin office to join his wife in DC. Cho had taken over as the team supervising agent and the new team now consisted of Agents Wylie, Lisbon, Tork, newcomer Agent Sam Adams and FBI consultant Patrick Jane, who would choose which cases he now worked on since most of his time was occupied with his family and renovating his new house. It wasn't the ideal situation but at least Cho could always call on Jane with the important cases, if he needed too.

Agent Sam Adams had joined the serious crime teams as a field agent when Lisbon was put on permanent desk duty a few months back. Adams had been a FBI officer from the Dallas office, she was in her late 30's, with long light brown hair, smart, kind, easily liked, didn't take any crap from anyone and had adjusted to working to infamous Patrick Jane and his unorthodox ways quickly. Adams had transferred after her recent divorce, along with her 7 year old son Joshua. She had become a full permanent member of the team when Lisbon had gone on maternity leave 9 weeks ago.

Senators Atkins daughter's murder had been a national headline for the last 2 days and it had fallen to Cho's team to investigate and get the horrible mess wrapped up quickly. The Senator had some sway with the FBI powers to be and they were adamant it be Cho's team, along with his wayward consultant, with the best close cased record, to work it.

Cho felt that he was a fairly patient man, it took a lot to get him angry, stressed or allowing people to get on his last nerve. In fact he felt that he was pretty good at handling most difficult situations life and law enforcement threw at him, unfortunately he felt today, God or some other higher force, was testing him. The reason for this was currently standing next to him.

"Have I showed you this, this is the cutest, check out his beaming smile. And this one with him in the bath, check out those little legs"

Cho turned his head up from the crime scene photos to see that Jane was holding his cell phone to show him yet another picture of the newest Jane family member. It had felt like ever since walking into his office earlier that morning, all he'd seen was pictures of baby Michael Patrick Jane. (Aka Mikey.)

Cho had called Jane 2 days earlier asking him to come in and help consult on the Michelle Atkins murder, at first Jane hadn't wanted too, he was enjoying his time being at home with his new son but cho had explained he was getting big pressure for his boss's and eventually Jane finally relented to help. But now, sat here trying to get Jane to focus and look over pictures of the crime scene, Cho was now seriously reconsidering that choice of action.

Of course Cho was happy for them, and yes, the new arrival was adorable, but after being shown the 27th picture of a dribbling kid, with Lisbon's green eyes and Jane's cheeky smile, Cho was beginning to reach his limit. Not even Rigsby had been this bad when Ben was born, he thought to himself. A revengeful, determined, crazy, obnoxious Jane, Cho could handle, he had nearly 10 years of experience working with that Jane, but a sappy, happy, cooing, overjoyed in love, Patrick Jane was a whole different story and Cho was starting to feel out of his depth.

"Oh this picture is great, he had just passed wind but look him smiling as he is doing it". Cho frowned in slight disgust that they were now discussing pictures of Jane's new baby boys gas habits, wondering when had their relationship turn to this?. Cho shook his head a little in disbelief and went back to studying the crime scenes photos, trying to ignore Jane's latest baby related comment.

"So what do think?" Cho said, determined to drive the conversation back to more professional matters. Jane sat back down in one of the guest chairs placed in front of Cho's desk, still happily smiling at his phone, clearly not interested in the what Cho was saying.

"Jane... Jane?"

"Huh! Oh right yes well You should check out the step mother, she would have motive to kill the step daughter..." said Jane finally turning his attention to the Agent sat in front of him.

"Already have and she has a air tight alibi."

"Hmmmm... well then I am afraid I have no idea Agent Cho."

"You have no idea? " Cho said sitting back in his comfy leather chair.

Jane looked up from his phone again. "Yes, I don't have any idea who killed the senators daughter... yet..."

"So that's it. You're giving up?" Cho was perplexed by Jane's easy defeat. Sighing, Jane finally put his phone in his jacket pocket, "I am not giving up, but right now all leads our are dead ends and despite what people may think, I can't work miracles, besides not everything in life is about solving crimes, now if there's nothing else you need me for, I will be out in the bullpen taking a nap..."

Watching Patrick Jane retreat to the bullpen, Cho rubbed his hand over his face in frustration. Ever since Jane had gotten married and had baby Mikey he seemed to be whole different person. A less intense person, a happy, contented, at peace person, but unfortunately for Cho, this Jane didn't help him in solving the Senator's daughter murder any quicker and the powers to be wanted this case wrapped up ASAP. Unfortunately with the rate things were going and the never ending dead ends that was not about to happen anytime soon and it would be Cho who would be taking the fallout from it.

A tapping on the office door made Cho turn his attention away from the bullpen. Standing in the door way was Ms Amy Chandler a young FBI HR officer. "Excuse me sir, I have some leave request forms that I need to you to look over and sign" she said shyly walking into the room. "And a return to work form I need you to sign off on"

"A return to work? From who?" said Cho confused. "Uh. Yes, Agent Lisbon, she is requesting a return to work, starting back in 3 weeks". Ms Chandler flicked through her papers, pulling out the form that was being discussed, handing it over the desk.

Cho stared down at the form in his hand, instantly recognising Lisbon's handwriting. Lisbon had been on maternity leave for 2 months and he hadn't expected her back at work for at least a few more months. Cho studied the form finally informing the young HR officer he would deal with it and return the forms to HR office later on.

Cho was confused by Lisbon's sudden request to come back to work, especially with Jane having been back in the office the last 2 days, pratically boring the whole of the FBI with his baby stories and showing anyone who was passing by his new baby pictures, Cho felt it strange that Jane hadn't once mentioned that Lisbon was wanting to return to work so soon. Placing the return to work form in his inbox, Cho decided he would look at the request form after his morning team briefing. He got up from his desk gathering up the crime photos and files and headed out to the bullpen hoping that maybe another of team had found a new lead.

Later that afternoon, after a tedious long meeting regarding the Atkins case, Jane decided he wasn't really needed for the rest of the day. Cho, Jane and Adams were going back to speak to the family and some more of the guests from the senators party tomorrow, so Jane didn't see any point in hanging around. He decided to leave early, especially as he had a gorgeous wife and child to go home too, he really didn't waste anymore time in the sterile FBI offices any longer than he had too.

"Wylie, I am heading off home, tell Cho I will see him tomorrow". said Jane.

"Your leaving now?" Wylie glanced at the clock on the wall which read 14:10pm

"Yes I am. Have fun looking at the Aitkens bank statements" Jane knew the poor kid had spent most of the morning doing just that with no luck or lead in sight. As Jane reached the elevator Wylie appear at his side.

"Looks like I am not the only one whos leaving early" said Jane.

"I need a break, I am heading down to HR, I need to fill in a leave form. Once this Atkins case is done I think I need some time off, last time I had a a long vacation was when me and Veg..." Wylie stopped mid sentence, sadness filling his eyes at remembering his late friend and colleague.

It had been nearly a year since Vega had been killed, but the pain was still raw for the young IT analyst who had developed feelings for Vega over her time at the FBI. Jane nodded sympathetically towards the young man, knowing full well the pain and sorrow from his own past experiences of loss. The doors to the elevator opened and Jane stepped in, followed by a forlorn looking Wylie.

"Floor 2, is it? Jane asked. When the elevator doors open again, Wylie stepped out with Jane following closely behind him, Wylie frowned not sure why Jane had exited the elevator.

"I thought you were going home?"Wylie asked him.

"I am. But I never miss a chance to say hello to my favorite HR officer..." Jane and Gloria Evans the HR manager relationship was an interesting one, especially with all the messes Jane had created for the bureau with his schemes over the past year, causing one huge HR nightmare.

They had a love/hate sort of relationship, Jane liked Gloria but she pretended to hate him.

"Gloria!" Jane said beaming a big mischievous smile at Wylie's unasked question.

"Really? She scares the life out of me" Wylie whispered, gulping nervously. Jane chuckled knowing that despite Gloria's cold hard outer shell and scary demeanour, she was really just a big cuddly pussy cat.

Walking down the corridor, they finally reaching the HR office, where the sound of ringing telephones and women chatting amongst themselves could be heard. Wylie lifted his hand to knock politely on the door but before he could do that, Jane strolled straight in.

"Afternoon, Ladies! How are we all this fine day?" Jane announced loudly. A few of the woman looked up instantly replying " Patrick" in unison. It was clear the Patrick Jane looks and charms hadn't by passed the HR women since joining the FBI and Jane had used his magic charm in the past on them all, Wylie noticed.

"Have you lost weight Susan? You look great" Said Jane propping himself upon the top of the woman's desk, taking one of her sweets and popping it in his mouth.

"Oh my gosh, yes I have, I've lost 4 pounds, so sweet of you to notice Patrick". The very large lady smiled proudly back at Jane. Wylie frowned not sure how Jane would know the large oversized woman had lost any weight, especially not looking at the extra large jar of sweets sat directly in front of her and the half eaten doughnut on a plate beside her desk.

"And Amy, has that scoundrel of a boyfriend woken up to his senses yet and popped the question yet?" Jane slowly began to walk across the room to a younger attractive girl standing by the photocopier. Holding up her left hand up twisting it back and forth like Beyoncé the young girl showed Jane her plain hand "do you see any ring on this finger?" Jane pretended to squint and take a closer look "well my dear he is fool, who doesn't know what he has got, you deserve better..."

"Hmmmm, you know what, Patrick you're right, know of anyone who's willing to take his place?". The young girl flicked her long blonde hair over her shoulder, not hiding the fact she was glancing towards Wylie, who was stood a little further behind Jane, Jane winked knowing full well who she was implying about "well if I think of anyone my dear I will definitely let you know?" With this Jane looked back towards Wylie too raising his eyebrows, Wylie cheeks flushed bright red and the young woman giggled walking back to her photocopying swaying her hips a little.

Suddenly the door to the other office opened and a large heavy set African American woman, in her mid 50's, immaculately dressed in an expensive grey work suit stepped out. "Oh God, what fresh hell is this?" she said out loud to no one in particular, crossing her arms in annoyance at the sight of Jane stood in the HR office.

"Ah, Gloria, my favorite HR FBI supervising Manager." Jane beaming the biggest smile towards at the intimidating looking woman.

"I am the 'ONLY' HR supervising manager" Gloria replied deadpan, clearly not impressed by the consultants empty compliment or dazzling smile, unlike the rest of her naive team members seemed to be. A low hum of giggles could be heard in the room but the death stare Gloria gave, soon put a stop to that.

"How's Henry doing after his broken leg?" Jane asked sincerely, his mouth turning up a little on one side, smirking.

"How the hell do you know about Henry?" Demanded Gloria looking totally shocked by the consultant's question regards her injured cat.

When Jane had arrived back on Monday, he had overheard two of the finance team in the break room moaning about how the HR and finance meeting had been put back till Wednesday due to the HR managers cat being knocked down and her having to rush him to the vets.

"A magician never reveals his secrets..." Jane answered wiggling his eyebrows.

"What do you want Mr Jane?" Gloria was now even more annoyed by the man presence.

"Do I need a reason to visit the HR angels of floor 2?" Jane held his arms out innocently. Gloria rolled her eyes skywards, snorting a loud grunting noise. "my young friend here, Agent Wylie, was wanting HR services, I've just popped along to admire the lovely view." Jane turned around playfully winking at the other ladies in the office.

"And of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to see you Gloria, it's been a while since me and you have conversed, I am found myself missing our quality time together..."

"We spoke, in depth, 2 months ago Mr Jane, when, as I recall, you once again wanted to change the terms your working contract," said Gloria clearly still annoyed at the amount of hours she had spent pampering to the consultant and his 'I choose how and when I work' contract with the FBI. She had her never known the FBI to concead some much to the most troublesome employee she had ever encountered in her 15 years working at the bureau.

"Ah yes and what a fun magical hour talking about contract clauses that was, you know Gloria, I always felt this strong connection between us, maybe in a different lifetime things could have been different... " Jane said sexily, leaning seductively against the photocopier never missing an opportunity to try and embarrass the older woman in front of her team, resulting in Gloria rolling her eyes in exhaustion again.

"Oh please Mr Jane, I am older enough to be your mo... sister and pale skinny white guys really aren't my thing. Oh and in a different lifetime I would make sure I was the other side of the world from the likes of you. Anyway, aren't you suppose to be changing diapers or something..."

"Well my beautiful wife has that area covered," he replied popping another sweet into his mouth.

"I bet she'll be glad when you take over full time with that role" Retorted Gloria. For a few seconds Janes smile dropped a little, not quite understanding her dig. Choosing to store her comment away and ignore it till later he decided to have a little more fun at the HR managers expense.

"I am here, as I am currently working a very high profile case but talking of my gorgeous new son, have I shown you my photos yet?" before Gloria could respond, Jane whipped his cell out and held it up in front of her.

"Precious" Gloria said in the dullest voice she could muster, not even bothering to look at the picture. "Now if you don't mind we are very busy Mr Jane and have a lot of work to do." She turned to walked back into her office but Jane quickly stepped in blocking her path.

"Come on now, Gloria, you know you want to see cute baby pictures," knowing full well that would be the last thing this particular woman would want to do "look I even have video of Mikey, does anyone else want to see?" within seconds, a gaggle of 4/5 women suddenly homed towards Jane and the annoyed HR Manager, all cooing and ahhhing at his cell phone. Gloria sighed loudly, annoyed at the disruption Jane was causing within her team storming back in to her office slamming the door behind her.

"Something I did? Jane said amusingly. It took another 20 minutes before all the women in the office had looked through Jane's phots and videos of Mikey and Wylie finally got his leave form dealt with.

Once back in the elevator Wylie turned to Jane chuckling. "Well it's good to know that trouble making Jane is still in there." Jane smiled back smugly. "I may have calmed down in that last year, but I am still me when I like to be... So Amy seems nice don't you think?"

Wylie faced flamed bright red again but he choose to change the subject "Yes I can see that, Uh... But does Lisbon know you have all the HR women wrapped around your little finger" said Wylie a little worried for his fellow consultant.

Jane smile turned to a light laughter "Teresa knows and trusts me Wylie. Plus a little harmless politeness and charm with the HR ladies can go along way in my experience, especially when you need others to do you dirty work for you..."

With this, the elevator doors slid open to reveal the ground floor and Jane stepped out chuckling happily to himself as he left the FBI building to go home to his wife and child.
