The Shattering of Kyon

Prologue

It doesn't take a genius to work out that, at some point in our lives, we're going to encounter someone or something that will completely change the way we view the world around us, whether it be for the better or for the worse.

Sometimes, it's when one falls in love. They become so lost in the feeling that everything else seems to lose it's colour in comparison. The only thing is, most of the time, that love fades and all one is left with is the melancholy greyness of a dull existence.

Other times, it's when our dreams either enter reality or are further pushed back into the realm of impossibility. This can make it so that one lives every day like it's their last, or so that minutes, hours, days and months become a blur; a necessity for everyone else but a depressing reminder that time is running out for the individual.

Or there's the times when someone or something simply strolls into one's life. Whether it be for a short or long while doesn't matter. Either way, this encounter, this person, this thing changes everything.

The latter applies to me. You see, I met someone a while back, and they changed everything. The world that once seemed to be so orderly and boring became a vibrant and exciting place. All of this because of one person? Not exactly. Meeting them led to one thing, and then to another thing, then another thing, then another thing and so on and so forth.

Eventually, I found myself leading quite an extraordinary life. It was full of danger, derangement and, well, damsels. The Three Ds, I guess. The only thing about the 'damsels' is that they're not like the fair Cinderella, the kind Snow White or the vulnerable Sleeping Beauty. Well, one is vulnerable, I suppose.

There's Mikuru Asahina - A time traveller. Let that sink in. 'A time traveller? Really?' You ask, but it's the honest truth. She's come back in time for some 'classified' reason.

Then there's Yuki Nagato - An alien android…thing. 'An alien android? What are you taking exactly?' You say with a frown, questioning my sanity. Once again, it's the honest truth.

The final damsel…well, I guess I'm the final damsel, really, or at least Itsuki Koizumi, an esper (Truth!). But due to our gender, we're not permitted to be specified as such.

Okay, I suppose that the third and final damsel, due to her not knowing that she is, infact, the cause of all the danger, derangement and fine collection of 'damsels' in my life, is a girl that goes by the name Haruhi Suzumiya. This girl is…how do I put it? A deity? A God? A pain in the arse? The last one is a definite, and to others she's certainly all three. But to me, Haruhi is Haruhi - An eccentric young woman who drags poor unfortunate souls into her inner circle of insanity which is given the title of S.O.S. Brigade. If you knew Haruhi, you'd been laughing at the irony of such a name.

Now, I could go on and on about these people (Seriously, I've got at least two-thousand pages worth of material!), but I won't. Instead, I'm going to tell you a story that actually started about a year ago. No further details than that because…

That's in Chapter One!
