Dawn lay on her bed in the playa crying softly into her pillow. She heard a knock on the door. "Come in," she said, barely lifting her head from her pillow. She promptly buried her face back in the pillow.

Dawn heard the door open and close. She felt a tap on her shoulder and looked up. "B-B," she managed through tears. He nodded, and gave her a look as if to ask, "What's wrong?". "I-I was nursing a baby bird with a broken wing to health, when a-a hawk swooped out of the sky and carried it away,".

B held her in his arms for a while, until she calmed down. B then got an idea. He went to his room and brought back springs and screws and paint and scrap metal and other things, and began to tinker. When he looked satisfied, he grabbed some blue and gold paints and a fine paintbrush and got to work painting. He grabbed a blow drier from Dawn's room and dried the paint. He grabbed a gift box and some blue ribbon and placed the object in the box. He put the lid on and tied it up, then presented it to Dawn.

"For me?" she asked, taken aback. She took it with shaking hands, and carefully untied the ribbon. Putting it aside, she pulled the lid off the box and stared in surprise at what was inside. "It's a clockwork bird!" she said, amazed. She twisted the key and held out her palm. With grace, the bird flew into the air. When it started to slow down, it flew back into her palm.

"I love it!" she said, jumping into B's arms. She kissed his forehead. "And I love you,". To her surprise, B replied with, "I love you too,".
