Disclamer: I own nothing pertaining to Superman, Smallville, it's characters or the DC Universe.
The calm after the storm
Some say the calm after the storm is the quietest and most peaceful the Earth can ever be. There is a stillness and finality to it like nothing else. And the storm that went through Smallville left a quiet that was finally broke by the creaking sound of, what was left of a barn door, being yanked and pulled open.
The sunlight that shone in the dark of the barn was blinding Clark and Lois as they made their way out of the destruction. There was evidence of the storm found everywhere in Smallville from the ruined Kent barn to power lines and trees that were knocked down and uprooted. Clark had a busy day ahead of him. Even busier than last night.
Last night! As Clark remembered what happened, he slowly turned around to help Lois over the broken pieces of the barn. As he grabbed her hands to lead her through it, a connection was felt and they looked up at each other.
They knew that after yesterday, things would never be what they were before.
"Are you okay," Clark asked smiling but in a concerned tone.
"Yes I am, thanks for asking," Lois mentioned smiling. She looked at Clark and his gaze lingered until she said, "Look at this place. I wonder if all of Smallville is this way?!"
*At that moment, Clark heard someone crying for help.
"You know what Lois, you should head to the Daily Planet and see if there is a story to be written about the storm. I bet you'd be given it and it would be front page material," Clark suggested.
"You're right Clark. But, don't you want to come with me?" Lois asked.
*I would more than you know, Clark thought.
"I have to do a couple of things here first but I'll meet you there sometime in the afternoon okay?"
"Okay," Lois said quietly. She looked up and Clark, into his clear beautiful blue eyes and then she kissed him. All the emotions from last night came rushing at them in that minute and they were lost in each other. But then Clark heard the person cry for help again.
Clark pulled away but with difficulty. "You should get going Lois," he said regretfully. "I'll see you soon," and then he went in the barn and super sped off.
"Too bad it's not still raining," Lois said breathlessly.
"Help! Help! Please somebody" she was screaming as Clark raced up to her.
What he saw in front of him stopped him dead in his tracks. There was a woman in an officer uniform, leaning over a body that was in a pool of blood from a tree branch impaled through their chest.
It was General Sam Lane.
