Rose didn't look at him the whole ride home. Didn't look at... Was she supposed to call him Doctor? But he wasn't the Doctor, so maybe he was the... The human Doctor?
Rose resolved to think of the Metacrisis as 'him'.
When they finally pulled up in front of the mansion, Rose got out without looking at him and headed up to her room. There, she sat numbly on the side of the bed, trying to make sense of the whole situation.
Okay, so there was her. Rose.
And then there was an alien Time Lord named Doctor.
And a human named Donna.
There was also a human version of the Doctor with traces of Donna.
Nope, still not making sense.
She sat there for a while, the edge of the blanket tightly gripped in her fists. Eventually, there was a slight rustle and suddenly 'him' was sitting beside her. She didn't acknowledge him. Rose clenched her jaw as she waited for him to speak.
He spoke softly. "Rose, I'm still me in the most important ways. Oh, there might be quirks, like maybe I'll develop a taste for coffee. Who knows, I might even be domestic."
Rose finally broke her silence. "I think the world would end if that happened."
He smiled.
"Thing is, it seems too good to be true," She said slowly, staring at the wall. "I mean, I've got my Doctor, and he's even human. Am I supposed to call you Doctor, though? Or do you want me to call you John Smith? Or, I dunno, David or Justin or, or even Dexter-"
"Just call me Doctor. I am the Doctor."
"Yeah, but you're not. You're a copy, a fake. You're not even a Time Lord-" Rose's voice faltered as the first tear slid down her cheek.
"Rose, look at me." His voice was quiet but firm.
She turned to look at him. The tears were flowing freely now.
"Rose, I am the Doctor. The only difference that matters is that I'm human." He gently put his hands on either side of her face. "Rose... I love you."
Slowly, her walls of distrust crumbling, she reached out and put her hands over his. She looked into those dark, intense eyes that right then were looking at her with love.
And in that moment, she let go of her fears, and realized that he was her Doctor.
This time, the tears were ones of happiness.
